Let's take a moment to see what has come to the surface on old Trumpy's first anniversary: 1) Yet another government shutdown which the vast majority of Americans now blame on Trump: #TrumpShutdown becomes top trending hashtag worldwide https://paper.li/Progress2day/1316455777 More Americans blame Republicans than Democrats for potential government shutdown, Post-ABC poll finds http://wapo.st/2mQjAjS "By a 20-point margin, more Americans blame President Trump and Republicans rather than Democrats for a potential government shutdown, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. A 48 percent plurality says Trump and congressional Republicans are mainly responsible for the situation resulting from disagreements over immigration laws and border security, while 28 percent fault Democrats. A sizable 18 percent volunteer that both parties are equally responsible. Political independents drive the lopsided margin of blame, saying by 46 to 25 percent margin that Republicans and Trump are responsible for the situation." Analysis | Shutdown dynamics highlight the state of politics on Trump’s anniversary http://wapo.st/2mT1Jso "The elements that produced this weekend’s government shutdown sum up the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency: a dealmaking chief executive who can’t make a deal; a divided Republican Party struggling to govern and in an uneasy relationship with the president; and a Democratic Party tethered to its anti-Trump progressive base in the face of political risk. It was fitting that the anniversary of Trump’s inauguration would be a day of chaos, uncertainty, recrimination and efforts at political point-scoring. That has been a hallmark of the Trump presidency. Why should the anniversary of his swearing-in be significantly different from most of the previous 365 days? A year ago, in his inaugural address, Trump promised to bring a swift end to what he called “this American carnage.” He promised disruption. At the one-year mark, the Trump era has certainly brought disruption to the capital, exposing the fault lines and vulnerabilities of the governing process. The shutdown could be short in duration — it is good for neither party, nor the president — but the climate of distrust and ill will is not going away." 2) Trumps support on the right is fading: Trump is losing his Republican base, new poll shows https://paper.li/Progress2day/1316455777 3) Opposition to DACA may backfire for Trump and the Alt-Right Crackpots: Huge majority of Americans want Dreamers to stay in US: poll http://nyp.st/2qUenfU Two-thirds of Trump supporters want Dreamers to stay in U.S. http://brook.gs/2f4N79E Majority of Americans support Dreamers staying in the US, poll says; https://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2017/1011/Majority-of-Americans-support-Dreamers-staying-in-the-US-poll-says 4) Oh and yes, another bimbo emerges from the cold to implicate Trump: Analysis | The case for taking the Trump-Stormy Daniels saga seriously http://wapo.st/2Dk8oCU "Imagine for a second that Donald Trump isn't president. Imagine it's former senator John Doe from Nebraska. Imagine that the Wall Street Journal reported that, on the eve of the 2016 election, Doe's longtime personal lawyer paid a porn star $130,000 to not talk about an alleged affair, using a shadowy LLC he had established in Delaware. Imagine we then found out that same porn star had told multiple tabloid-y news outlets years ago about sexual encounters with now-President Doe. It would probably be the biggest scandal of the Doe administration. In the Trump administration, though, it's not even the biggest story of the week. But the saga involving Stormy Daniels and Trump is getting more and more difficult to dismiss as tabloid trash with each passing day, and there's a serious case to be made that it's actually been under-covered. That doesn't mean it's true or even that there has been any genuine wrongdoing — just that it's worth asking some very serious questions." Analysis | Trump's love of tabloid gossip complicates his denial of affair allegations with Stormy Daniels http://wapo.st/2mRxr9o "Dec. 7, 2005, was a busy day of self-promotion for Donald Trump. He appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show to plug the finale of “The Apprentice,” season four. He gave an interview to CNN Headline News in which he talked about his plan to film a subsequent season in Los Angeles. And at Trump Tower in New York, the future president of the United States hosted an event for In Touch, the gossip magazine that this week published a porn star’s claim that the two had sex in July 2006. At the event, Trump picked the winner of In Touch’s “Win a Million Dollars Sweepstakes” and presented an oversize check against a backdrop featuring the “Apprentice” and In Touch logos. The White House has dismissed the alleged encounter between Trump and adult-film actress Stormy Daniels as tabloid trash. But Trump’s denial is complicated by his history of associating with publications such as In Touch and lending credence to their work." 5) Anti-Trump protests continue: Women’s March 2018: Thousands of Protesters Take to the Streets https://nyti.ms/2DmRX8V "A year after millions of people turned out for the Women’s March and took to the streets en masse to protest President Trump’s inauguration, demonstrators gathered on Saturday in cities across the United States, galvanized by their disdain for Mr. Trump and his administration’s policies. A deluge of revelations about powerful men abusing women, leading to the #MeToo moment, has pushed activists to demand deeper social and political change. Progressive women are eager to build on the movement and translate their enthusiasm into electoral victories in this year’s midterm elections." Trump tweets support of Women's March that's also protesting; http://cnn.it/2rrOHaS Women's March 2018 as it happened: Hundreds of thousands join nationwide protests against Trump; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/womens-march-2018-latest-updates-protest-donald-trump-power-polls-feminism-washington-las-vegas-new-a8169781.html "Hundreds of thousands of women around America and the world took to the streets for the 2018 Women's March, a year after the first such event was held in opposition to newly elected US President Donald Trump. Demonstrators surged into the streets in protests in American cities across the country, with parallel rallies in Europe, Asia and Africa turning the event into a global affair. Authorities estimated that well over 100,000 people attended the New York rally and that some 300,000 showed up in Los Angeles." And to make matters worse, Trump had to miss his own party in Mar-a-Largo....Man That's Winning!!!!!!

Posted by wounded warrior, American hero and Senator from Illinois: A year to the day after President Trump took office, U.S. government shuts down as Senate fails to pass short-term spending bill http://trib.in/2DQN351 "Trump had been an unreliable negotiator in the weeks leading up to the showdown. Earlier this week he tweeted opposition to the four-week plan, forcing the White House to later affirm his support. He expressed openness to extending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, only to reject a bipartisan proposal. His disparaging remarks about African and Haitian immigrants last week helped derail further negotiations. Trump had been set to leave Friday afternoon to attend a fundraiser at his Palm Beach, Florida, estate marking the one-year anniversary of his inauguration but delayed his travel. As word of the Schumer meeting spread, the White House hastened to reassure Republican congressional leaders that Trump would not make any major policy concessions, said a person familiar with the conversations but not authorized to be quoted by name." |

Took him just a scant numbers of hours less than a year to preside over the government shutting down. Just imagine the wreck he will be responsible for over four years. |

Hopefully the Government will remain shut down for years so that all the pet hamsters will die of starvation or unmet health needs, there will be no scientific research grants on global warming, Congress will become unpaid volunteers, Illegal Aliens will be deported or disposed of by citizens, NATO is bound by treaty to protect the USA, and I will not pay any federal taxes............

Even true conservatives know Trump's a goof!: Was It for This? http://bit.ly/2mLtbsR "The Trump presidency has yet to deliver on its populist promise. Was this what you bargained for? Donald Trump is softening on NAFTA. His advisers are trying to talk him down from any substantial trade conflict with China. He agrees, absentmindedly, with Dianne Feinstein on immigration legislation, betraying that he has no clue what his own policy might be, or a legislative strategy to achieve it. At best, he is trying to “make deals” in the way of a real-estate developer, getting a “yes” from any number of relevant players before springing the entire plan on them after they are invested. The problem is that he doesn’t have the blueprints. Congress will draw them up for him, having long since figured out that Trump will just be a salesman for whatever they deliver. Where’s the Trumpian revision of foreign affairs? American policy in the Middle East still seems to have a “made in Riyadh” label underneath it. Our troops are in Syria without legal mandate, and without the enemy, ISIS, being routed there. Same old wars. The only new thing is the depth of incompetence in the diplomatic corps, who insult our allies. Instead of an industrial policy, and a national medical system that takes care of “everyone” as he promised, Trump has delivered an enormous corporate tax cut....Trump can tweet what he likes about transgendered persons serving in the military. The government proceeds incorporating them. He can say he is making sure planes land safely and improving our trade deals. The world moves on, making him an object lesson in the powerlessness of his most fervent supporters." Edited by La Pasionaria, Jan 21 2018, 02:27 PM.

Do you think that both Donnie and Chucky made a decision to shut is down? Chucky made a few concessions, including wall funds, and Donnie said no. Not enough. It's my way of the highway...so to speak. Chucky could have sweeted the deal but he chose not to. So Donnie says, Chuck you Phucky and ends it. In the next days it will be interesting to see if Chucky comes back with a sweeter offer.

No deal in sight as shutdown extends to second day; http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/370001-no-deal-in-sight-as-shutdown-extends-to-second-day "With hundreds of thousands of federal workers expected to begin furloughs on Monday, White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney said a shutdown that began on the anniversary of President Trump’s inauguration — and against a backdrop of women’s marches criticizing his leadership — could last more than a week. “I think Democrats want to see the president give the State of the Union under a shutdown,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.” That address is scheduled for Jan. 30."

Shutdown agreement! Trump is to blame. http://wapo.st/2mTuNjF?tid=ss_tw&utm_term=.82dfd1cf016f "Democrats and Republicans may disagree on spending levels and on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, but they seem to becoming around to the same conclusion: President Trump is a nightmare and largely responsible for the shutdown. Republicans won’t say that flat out, but more are saying it obliquely. The Post reports: If the president said in private he would be okay with a shutdown, but in public decried one, what did he actually want? That is a mystery to even his allies in Congress. This week, Trump cast doubt on whether he would sign a short-term spending bill to keep the government’s lights on for another month, hours after his spokeswoman said he would. Hours before a precarious vote in the House of Representatives to avoid such a scenario, Trump pulled the rug out from under GOP leaders by seeming to take away their only leverage to get Democrats on board: funding the Children’s Health Insurance Program. And it got worse from there. “He ended the Obama-era dreamer protections in September, tossing it to Congress to fix. Then he switched his position several times on whether he wanted Congress to find a permanent solution and/or what he wanted in exchange for it.” When senators returned with a deal, Trump blew it up and created a furor with his reported “s**thole” remark. |

This shutdown was planned months ago by Trump, when he terminated DACA knowing full well he needed Dem's support to get his wall funding simply because he didn't have the necessary 60 votes in the senate. So, he calculated the only way he'll get Dem's to support his wall is to offer to reinstate DACA in exchange for wall funding. Which means, Trumps demanding Dem's sell out their base so Trump can appease his. This will likely be a very long and damaging shutdown |

"The stability of American society depends on conservatives’ ability to find a way forward from the Trump dead end," writes @davidfrum in an excerpt from his latest book. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/01/frum-trumpocracy/550685/ "The stability of American society depends on conservatives finding a way forward from the Trump dead end.... Election 2016 looked on paper like the most sweeping Republican victory since the Jazz Age. Yet there was a hollowness to the Trump Republicans’ seeming ascendancy over the federal government and in so many of the states. The Republicans of the 1920s had drawn their strength from the country’s most economically and culturally dynamic places. In 1924, Calvin Coolidge won almost 56 percent of the vote in cosmopolitan New York State, 65 percent in mighty industrial Pennsylvania, 75 percent in Michigan, the hub of the new automotive economy. Not so in 2016. Where technologies were invented and where styles were set, where diseases cured and innovations launched, where songs were composed and patents registered—there the GOP was weakest. Donald Trump won vast swathes of the nation’s landmass. Hillary Clinton won the counties that produced 64 percent of the nation’s wealth. Even in Trump states, Clinton won the knowledge centers, places like the Research Triangle of North Carolina. The Trump presidency only accelerated the divorce of political power from cultural power. Business leaders quit Trump’s advisory boards lest his racist outbursts sully their brands. Companies like Facebook and Microsoft denounced his immigration policies. Popular singers refused invitations to his White House; great athletes boycotted his events. By the summer of 2017, Trump’s approval among those under thirty had dipped to 20 percent." |

Only an idiot would say something like this. 401k my ass. 403b, 529, pension plans and not one of them in the history of any of these plans have been worth less than the amounts they began with if the time horizon exceeded 5 years. The market, did you know there was more than one of them? How many are there Chicken Little? What occurs to, say and annuity invested in a market when the market drops? What happens to a managed IRA account when the market drops? During the crash of 2008 which group of investors saw an increase in their retirement funds? I do this and have done this for a living for many years. I will be interested in any thoughts that you can offer here and now to substantiate any claim that you have made. |
