Fox Business News LOS ANGELES – California Gov. Jerry Brown appears poised to exit office next year with a top political priority in hand: free from the massive budget deficits that had weighed on his predecessors. Buoyed by tax increases passed under his administration and a strong economy, Mr. Brown said Wednesday that the state is projecting a $6.1 billion surplus for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. The governor proposed socking most of the money away in a rainy-day fund whose creation he pushed for in 2014. Nearly 70% of the state's projected revenue of about $135 billion next fiscal year is derived from personal income taxes, according to the governor's office. (snip) Mr. Brown took office in 2011 with a $27 billion deficit and drastically slashed spending. In 2012, he staked his governorship on a tax increase that voters approved that year and reauthorized in 2016. Edited by _g R_, Jan 28 2018, 10:49 PM.

" The state's fiscal health is especially crucial as it faces myriad challenges: record natural disasters, housing shortages and changes to federal tax regulation -- all while it ramps up opposition to the Trump administration on several major policy fronts." |

Add a few more billion a year for cannabis taxes ( as long as Trump and Sessions don't interfere). |

Why do you suppose Trump capped Californians tax deductions? That state doesn’t pay it’s fair share of taxes. |

Ironically, Brown is a fiscal conservative. After being elected governor of California the first time in 1975, he created the largest budget surplus in the state's history, following the free spending days of Ronald Reagan. It's no surprise he would do it again. |

Gov. Brown's state budget projects an $8-billion pension payment next year Jan. 13, 2017 "Brown's proposed budget includes a combined $8.1 billion for payments to the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS). So we learn from them don't we ? Good, bad and ugly...it usually starts there. On the environment, Californians fight back against Trump As Washington diminishes American credibility and environmental commitment both at home and around the globe, there is still hope for functional democracy, sound leadership and a future where environmental protection and international collaboration are valued in California. According to former California State assemblyman, president of Children Now and campus political science lecturer Ted Lempert, California has been setting the national standard for many decades on environmental leadership. http://www.dailycal.org/2017/11/05/environment-californians-fight-back-trump/ |

Yes, a conservative "think-tank" creates the most extreme analysis possible. Of that number, California state debt is $224 Billion. Of course most of this debt are long term bonds taken out to finance capital projects. But even with that analysis, California still has much less debt than the US government does and it has a budget in surplus by raising taxes. |

And he is still running a surplus, very impressive. See you don't have to follow the Republicans and "borrow and spend", you can actually pay for what you want. |

Yes, CA's 1+ TRILLION dollar debt is truly impressive. The state with 12% of the population that houses almost a third of the welfare population. IMPRESSIVE!!! |
