Well, how about that! :)

California’s Total State and Local Debt Totals $1.3 Trillion

Yes, a conservative "think-tank" creates the most extreme analysis possible. Of that number, California state debt is $224 Billion. Of course most of this debt are long term bonds taken out to finance capital projects.

But even with that analysis, California still has much less debt than the US government does and it has a budget in surplus by raising taxes.
Californians don’t pay enough in taxes.

So, CA, a single state has less debt than the entire country and that's something to brag about? Factor in unfunded pension liabilities, county, city and municipality debt and the number is close to 1 trillion dollars. Something the dems should be proud of.

The level of economic ignorance has reached a new level.

Brown even acknowledges that pensions will be on the table during the next(inevitable) recession. Calpers is under water.
Stock market increases will turn that around............ :)

The market is cyclical, there are profit takers already taking their money out of the market. Calpers is in deep sheit because it's been underfunded for decades. Unless the market doubles they will be forced to reduce pension benefits or increase contributions, probably both.

Conservatives won't be happy until they somehow manage to drag California down to the same economic and social level as Mississippi and Georgia.

Please explain how conservative are even partially responsible for CA's fiscal woes and unfunded pension promises? The democrats have been in nearly full control for decades. Democrats made the pension agreements then refused to fund them. The democrats, despite some of the highest taxes in the country outspent it's revenues. CA then decided it wanted to be a home for poor illiterate peasants looking for a handout, you got your wish. Democrats in CA are COMPLETELY to blame.

I congratulate them on their accounting.

I might be a little concerned about this part of the article.

Quote:

Nearly 70% of the state's projected revenue of about $135 billion next fiscal year is derived from personal income taxes, according to the governor's office.

The question may (or may not) become whether or not their current state income tax levels are sustainable for the long term. If I earned a significant income in California I would consider moving.

That of course is irrelevant to the current situation. Brown and his people have done the job they were asked to do by the people who put them in office. For the most part it appears that they tried to do what they said they were going to do in their campaigns. Frankly, that is all one can ask of a politician. That they do what they said they were going to do.

You people are doing that on your own....

Why is liberal California the poverty capital of America?

Guess which state has the highest poverty rate in the country? Not Mississippi, New Mexico, or West Virginia, but California, where nearly one out of five residents is poor. That's according to the Census Bureau's Supplemental Poverty Measure, which factors in the cost of housing, food, utilities and clothing, and which includes noncash government assistance as a form of income.

Only liberals can choose not to go down the road to widespread, systematic violence.

Let's get down to brass tacks...

Texas continued its reign as America’s No. 1 Growth State during 2017, according to U-Haul data analyzing the past year’s U.S. migration trends.

Florida, Arkansas, South Carolina and Tennessee rounded out the top five, and North Carolina was seventh, continuing a strong growth movement in the Southeast. California overtook Illinois on the list as the biggest net-loss state.

U-Haul Growth State Rankings for 2017
1.Texas
2. Florida
3. Arkansas
4. South Carolina
5. Tennessee
.
.
.
50. California

The budget surplus is a mirage...California is going to be in the s**tter if they keep driving away business and investment.
