Che, the History is cyclic, after a wave of more or less independent leaders now we observe in the whole Latin America a shift to pro-American dictatorships, it is partially objective, you can hardly resist change of public sympathies when economic situation deteriorates (and it does due to objective reasons, due to the World economic crisis).
Whoever comes to power hopes of the people evaporate soon and they hope current opposition will do it better.

It also means that public mood will turn to pro-independence soon again and whatever dictatorships the US installs in Latin American countries - more solid results of anti-American revolutions will be.
And again - the US has stuck in several wars already, and seems to provoke more and more, including one with Russia.
So far Putin is trying hard to avoid any confrontation, but if we're forced to really respond - I think Latin America will instantly forget how Americans look like... :)
As well any US-Russia or US-China big cold war presumes proxi wars too, i.e. Latin America will get quite turbulent....
I mean I am quite pessimistic on our World's short term perspectives :), so, everything is not so bad yet, enjoy your life while you still can :)

I heard his speech, too, on Spanish national radio and TV. He was advocating the US national sport of egging Central/South American generals to depose civilian governments; in this case Venezuela. Whether or not the incumbent civilian leader of Venezuela is himself despotic is another question.

The only 'apparent' difference between now and the 70s is that the CIA is not providing the arms and funds.

"Pinochet-style..."

Perhaps the silly people at Telesur can produce an article comparing the Maduro government with Pinochet? I'd LOVE to see that...

Just imagine. What would happen if...?

"In the history of America, it is often times that a plane through a skycraper is the agent of change when things are so bad and the leadership can no longer serve the people".
-Saudi Minister of Foreign Relations-

"In the history of America, it is often times that bombing Pearl Harbor is the agent of change when things are so bad and the leadership can no longer serve the people".
-Japanese Ambassador in Washington-

With such "diplomatic skills", it is not wonder that...

Latin America wary of U.S. harder line against Venezuela
Quote:

Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson spent much of his tour of Latin American capitals ratcheting up threats against Venezuela — warning that Washington may move to shut off purchases of the socialist government’s oil and even suggesting that the Trump administration would have no problem with a military coup in Caracas.

There is nothing Democratic about the Maduro Government...

That should be obvious...

Trump needs to focus more so on the male vote. He should have nationalized the Boy Scouts when they decided to admit girls.
