Rising racism taints Italian electoral campaign
![]() In this photo taken on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, President of the Jewish Community Bruno Carmi stands inside a Synagogue in Verona, Italy. Racist and anti-Semitic expressions have been growing more bold, widespread and violent in Italy. Anti-migrant rhetoric is playing an unprecedented role in shaping the campaign for the March 4 national elections, and many say that is worsening tensions and even encouraging violence. 1. Italians never have fond feelings toward Blacks. 2. Blacks knew this but decided to poke the hornet's nest. 3. Italy isn't America. Blacks can cry racial injustice all they want. Majority of Italians don't care. If Blacks riot in Italy the same way they did in America, don't expect Italians to idle around. |

Italians don't even like Black soccer players playing for the Italian national team. Blacks will not gain acceptance as Italians as long as Italy remains majority Italians. |

In Italy’s poorer south, populist party woos angry voters
![]() A view of one of the buldings of “Le Vele di Scampia”, (the Sails of Scampia), a public housing project which for over a decate was the center for the Camorra Mafia syndicate’s drug business and which has served as a backdrop for the hit movie and TV series “Gomorrah”, in Naples, southern Italy, Monday, Feb. 12, 2018. Whichever party can convert voters’ palpable anger in the south into support in Italy’s March 4 election could very well determine who governs Italy, a few dozen southern races, including in the Campania region embracing Naples, are critical. Italians stage protests in violence-marred election campaign
![]() Police take on students opposing a neo-fascist party in Milan, Italy, Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018. Students opposing a neo-fascist party have scuffled with police in Milan at one of at least a dozen rallies being held across Italy on the last weekend for political action before the March 4 national election. Thousands of police have been deployed for protests in Rome, Milan and other Italian cities tasked with preventing clashes during an election campaign that has increasingly been marked by violence.
