BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — A photograph of Argentina’s president shaking hands with an off-duty police officer who fatally shot a man in the back after he stabbed and robbed a U.S. tourist has triggered a heated debate over the limits of a crackdown on crime.

The government said the only objective of the presidential encounter was to highlight the hard work of the nation’s security forces and dispel the notion that officers should always be blamed in such incidents.

Human rights advocates, however, fear that President Mauricio Macri’s support gives police a green light to shoot first and ask questions later. They say it sets a dangerous precedent in a country haunted by memories of human rights abuses by authorities during the 1976-1983 dictatorship.

In this handout photo provided by the Argentine Presidency, released Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, Argentine President Mauricio Macri, right, shakes hands with police officer Luis Chocobar at the presidential house in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Macri hailed Chocobar after the policeman shot a escaping robber on the back, raising fears that Macri’s embrace will give the country’s police force, with a long history of abuses, a green light to shoot first and ask questions later. Chocobar is a shooter not a runner....He was not in shape to run down a young thief, which the thief should have thought about before he took off running....This should be standard police procedure in the USA, which would put a real dent on our crime rate....In Mexico, crooks know not to run from police or resist arrest............ :hooray:

Gentlemen, please. I know that you are Americans. But there is not death penalty in Argentina. And shooting to the back of a running person, hundreds of meters away of the robbery place is not legal. So...

Charges confirmed against officer in Argentine shooting
Quote:

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — An Argentine court on Friday confirmed murder charges against an off-duty police officer who was praised by President Mauricio Macri after he fatally shot a man who robbed a U.S. tourist.

The court turned down an appeal by police officer Luis Chocobar. He shot 18-year-old Pablo Kukoc in the back on Dec. 8 after he stabbed American citizen Joe Wolek in Buenos Aires. The court said Chocobar could have adopted less hurtful measures, including warning shots, chasing the suspect, or waiting for backup from security forces that had already been alerted to the robbery.

So, Gentle Reader: Argentina is under the Neofascist Macri Regime, now. Under that Regime, there is richness for a few and poverty for the many. This unfair situation brews social unrest and crime.

The Macri regime uses the police for social repression, in turn:
