What's Behind Trump's Rising Popularity?

It would be easy to read the headlines this week and conclude that the Trump administration is in even more trouble than normal. The White House still can’t get its story straight on Staff Secretary Rob Porter’s departure amid domestic-violence accusations. Chief of Staff John Kelly seems to be losing support from his subordinates and his boss. And the boss himself is stubbornly refusing to offer even a wisp of sympathy to victims of abuse.

This interpretation wouldn’t be wrong—these scandals are real and they are disturbing on a number of fronts—but it threatens to eclipse the ways in which the political picture has improved in recent weeks for both President Trump and his sometimes uneasy Republican allies.

Democrats still don't get it. They pooled all their energy defending illegal immigrants rather than making sure Americans having high standard of living. Such a shame

Hmmm, let's see, if you have an IRA, 401K or defined pension plan you are much better off. If you are looking for a job or want to get a better job you are better off. If you are earning a paycheck you are keeping more of what you made. If you are in the military you got a raise. If you are a major corporation you have millions, maybe billions more to spend on expansion.

In general the only one's not benefitting are welfare mammy's and illegals. I'm more than OK with that.

The middle class sees a slight bump in take-home pay due to adjusted withholding calculations that must be paid back, and the right-wing pretends its a big deal.

I disagree. His improved popularity comes from Americans vicariously living out their dream of bedding a pornstar through their President.

The only one's not saving thousands of dollars are people without earned income. I realize that's unfair by liberal standards but that's life, you have to have EARNED income to save on your taxes.

Trump needs to focus more so on the male vote. He should have nationalized the Boy Scouts when they decided to admit girls.

Maybe 70-101 wasn't aware the Trump tax cuts weren't effective until January 1, 2018? Knowledge is a dangerous thing, lack of knowledge is even more dangerous.

GOP tax guru, and all-around genius at large, Paul Ryan, was so thrilled the middle-class was actually experiencing a modicum of tax relief he mentioned one of its main beneficiaries by name, in a Tweet.

Where he mentioned Ms. Julia Ketchum, a high school secretary from Lancaster PA. Ms. Ketchum said she was pleasantly surprised her pay went up $1.50 a week. When, in reality, she didn’t think her pay would go up at all, let alone so soon, she said.

Which adds up to an astonishing $78.00 a year, which she said will more than cover the cost of her Costco membership renewal for the upcoming year.

Cost of a Costco membership: Less than $78.00 a year

Cost of membership to Mar-a-Lago: $200,000 to join, then $14,000 a year in annual dues (plus applicable federal, state and local taxes)

But, I hear the burgers are good, and some fat guy with a comb-over walks around and tells dirty jokes and lies about his golf game.

Oh boy, allow me to explain something Lil Buddy. Ms Ketchum is referring to her WITHOLDING being decreased by $1.50/week, her ACTUAL tax liability will be a lot less, in other words she will be getting a much bigger refund. Withholding is effected by number of exemptions and total estimated yearly earnings. You never know how much you owe until you file your taxes.

If she's single and makes $30,000/year her RATE will go down 3%. Do the math....

"...Trump remains historically unpopular for a first-term president, but against that low baseline, he’s seen improvement. FiveThirtyEight’s aggregator of approval ratings puts him at 41 percent, well below where any of his predecessors in the modern era were at this moment in their terms, but his highest point since mid-May,..."
