US President Donald Trump says he will impose a tax on European car imports if the EU raises tariffs on incoming American goods, accusing his predecessors of leaving the US hostage to “very stupid” trade deals.

finally, a giant step towards the Final Economic Collapse - trade wars... :)

the US has blinked first, today joint coordinated effort of major World central banks will be much harder to achieve, and their joint efforts if happen will be discoordinated with protectionism of national governments, it will bring more chaos.

plus, the US threatens real wars against half of the World. with inevitable consequences for gold/dollar.

the US is axing a branch it is sitting on - free trade and Dollar status...

when the God decides to punish someone he deprives him of brains...

At the rate he's going, Trump will destroy domestic car, truck. and heavy equipment production - and that's only the beginning. :oyvey

The German auto industry must be destroyed until it abandons Merkel.

Nope. These foreign companies will move their operations to America and buy American made steel. Mazda and Toyota is opening a huge plant in Alabama. More jobs for Americans.
Kate Steinle was separated from her family permanently but leftists didn't seem to mind.

Drudge, until you are ready to pay twice a price all US car plants, however many they are, will produce the same value, number of cars totalling the same sum.
i.e. if US steel and cars producers raise prices (what protectionism aims at) - they will sell less steel and cars, rather causing decline in other related spheres.

Trump is an idiot, frankly saying. In economy - for sure. The US benefits much more from free trade and transfer of capital, than looses.
Economic isolationism and trade wars will undermine acceptance of Dollar, and it will be the end of both Dollar and American empire... :)

What is going on in the US is a systemic crisis. Everything is going on as it must go, everything is natural. Trump, protectionism, collapse of dollar, desintegration of the US.
You just must go through all inevitable stages...

Harry Callahan: Uh uh. I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

Ya gotta ask yourself who is the worlds biggest customer???

Trump's strategy for increasing US manufacturing jobs by imposing high tariffs on nations with whom the USA maintains a trade deficit is an interesting one -- on paper at least -- which is why he is getting surprised encouragement from organized labor and the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. Of course, he is simultaneously provoking shrieks of rage and disbelief from his own Republican Party and its Big Business donor base. This paradox is causing many folks to ask, "is he serious?".

I think the answer is, yes -- to the degree that Trump is serious about anything. Long-term planning, like syllogistic logic, is something that just doesn't exist beneath that carefully coiffed blond dome. Trump doesn't think about the steps needed to reach his dream or of the resources, economic or political, required to make the journey. His protectionism is like the protection afforded by his big, beautiful wall: a fantasy.

The only 2 reasons hyperinflation has not started yet in the Dollar zone are :
1) Excess dollars are absorbed by the World economy, and it depends on Dollar being the Workd trade and reserve currency - due to US-dominated and imposed WTO, which is nothing but a pro-US regime of hacking foreign markets to guarantee fre access of US (and allies) goods to unprotected markets. Obviously trade wars, isolationism and undermining WTO by the US itself undermine both global acceptance of Dollar and affects free flow of capitals to the US debt.
2) maybe the most important. Whatever the cost of labor in the US is US citizens can enjoy cheap import which is not tied to expensive US labor/high cost.
It presses inflation however much the excess of freshly printed dollars is.
If cheap import is banned immediately inflation will start growing in the US. And if total volume of banbed import is big and inflation gets significant - it may trigger hyperinflation.

generally, unless US labor gets cheaper, i.e. unless you are paid less and live worse, really and much worse, for decades - nothing will save the US economy from collapse :)
