My friend Joel is an ex-con who after serving his time was getting his life together. After being clean/sober and drug free for nearly 4 years. He took in his 9 year old nephew who's mother was strung out on meth and hooking for drugs. Joel didn't have a lot, but he and his live in did what they could to give the kid a normal life, but the kid was a problem, always acting up, trouble in school, all the usual behavioral problems one might expect from a kid with his history. So anyway, one evening after the boy had been sent home from school, Joel spanked the boy. The next school day, the kid told his teacher about the spanking. She called CPS. That afternoon the police showed up at my office and took Joel away in handcuffs. I bailed him out that evening because he was to be married the next day. He was about 3 months away from having his probation lifted. Joel was convicted of child abuse, spent 6 more months in prison and given another 10 years probation. The kid went into the foster care system and I have no idea what became of him. That my friends is the reality we live with today. |

Scenario 1: you got a lot of quail hunters in urban school zones? 2015 the kid wouldn't bring a shotgun to school, he brought his father's 9mm Glock who had stupidly unsecured it and left a magazine of ammo, Jack brought it because he's being bullied non-stop by 8th graders who mercilessly beat up the 6th grader every day and take his lunch money. He sees how his father feels pumped up after shooting the pistol, and Jack wants that feeling of power so he took the unsecured pistol just wanting to scare the 8th graders, on cue the 8th graders attempt to extort Jack's lunch money, Jack pulls out the pistol from his backpack, aims and fires because well, that is what you do with a pistol in an almost game-like scenario..one boy falls dead, another in the back as Jack keeps firing, also hitting a teacher who had run out of her classroom at the sound of the first shot, while a 3rd manages to evade Jack. Scenario 2: This isn't a one time fight...where both parties are equal...one is the larger bully usually and the other not able to defend himself adequately. The lesser child gets bloody until a teacher stops the bully.. The children are sent to the principal's office where both sets of parents are notified, the beaten child's parents want the bully expelled as a disruptive influence..but the bully is just a victim as well, the bully's father is a braggart who think the lesser child just needs a tougher skin and that he should learn from the beating, but pledges he will his kid won't start another fight..once home the bully's father beats his child into submission for making him lose a day at work to listen to some do-gooder liberal pansy faggot educator who was probably a socialist. Scenario 3:Yes, Jeffrey is over-medicated, but the reality is his disruption is because he's got Tourette's Syndrome and was misdiagnosed early on.. The school doesn't get extra money, but the parents can apply for grants for any nursing aides Jeffrey can use to cope with his disability. Scenario 4:Billy's father, who in 1970 is a Vietnam vet reeling from PTSD and is unable to properly raise Billy other then screaming at him as if that is good parenting skills. He's just mad his son got caught and doesn't really care if Billy broke the glass. 2015. Billy's Father is a Iran-Iraq war soldier still on active duty and doesn't deal with his kid enough because in the last 15 years he's been on forced deployments half the time away from his Billy, and his mother is left alone trying to hold it together as both father and mother. The mother gets no help from an already overloaded military mental health system so she goes thru TriCare (which replaced Champus) to get a civilian psychiatrist who properly redirects Billy's anger and issues with father abandonment, Billy's mother demands her husband's Bn Co give her husband leave from deployment to deal with his family issues or she'll go over his head, he doesn't believe her and has her escorted from the building, fortunately the mother's best friend happens to be the Base Commanding General's wife who puts the wife in touch with her husband, her husband is on a plane in 24hrs back to the States with a 30 day personal leave. All is well. Scenario 5:in 1970, that's actually marijuana Mark got from his mother who is dealing with her husband's infidelity but like many 1970's wives merely accepts her husband's infidelity to keep her family together. 2015, her mother simply notifies the school's administrator that in accordance with local law she is informing them her son carries pain kills and gives them her pharmicist's number for confirmation and no harm, no foul. Scenario 6:1970, Pedro is here illegally and can't let the administrators know, so he has to drop out and work the crops season like his father does, Pedro is locked into the poverty cycle. 2015- Under US Law, Pedro is granted status under DACA, as 2nd generation he grew up speaking English just needed help in writing and understanding it, luckily the local community college has a tutoring referral and he gets the help he needs without the ACLU or drudge's fantasy. Scenario 7:Johnny's actions paints a dark future, those who abuse the smallest usually graduate up, next year the neighbor's dog is missed, and a series of deaths of young women get missed all the while Johnny grows up to 2015 a serial killer who eventually gets caught by the FBI due to their due diligence of agents who never gave up on his cold cases. Scenario 8: Johnny is sent to the school nurse who really doesn't have the resources to properly care for any infection but cleans the wound the best she can and bandages it and sends Johnny home in 1970. In 2015 the school nurse has been known to take younger lovers, Johnny is merely the latest in a long line of young boys she has abused. Drudge thinks this is just men getting their freak on. |

In the 1950's we had over a half-million people locked up in mental institutions. Now, crazy people are free to buy guns and shoot people. |

Should the U.S. Bring Back Psychiatric Asylums? "Although psychiatric hospitals still exist, the dearth of long-term care options for the mentally ill in the U.S. is acute, the researchers say. State-run psychiatric facilities house 45,000 patients, less than a tenth of the number of patients they did in 1955. With the doubling of the U.S. population, the researchers write, this is a 95 percent decline." |

In the 50's discipline was swift and decisive. I remember when I was six, a nun taking a ruler to the back of my hand while the class cried. I remember a high school teacher, an ex-marine take two baseball like swings with his personal paddle to the my rear end. The second swing was enough to make me dizzy, I almost collapsed. Funny, my attitude quickly changed. Today there is no discipline, touching a student will get a teacher fired. We have created whinny little biaches that know there are no consequences for their actions. I'm not suggesting beating students but if I can remember these two disciplinary measures 50 years after the fact I can assure you they were effective. Edited by PATruth, Mar 27 2018, 09:45 AM.

Drudge is employing a Gish Gallop, (also known as proof by verbosity) a fallacious debate tactic of drowning your opponent in a flood of individually-weak arguments in order to prevent rebuttal of the whole argument collection without great effort. |

I'm clearly NOT, since I mentioned the change in sample size. You made a b.s. claim and got called out. True. Perhaps some middle ground might be in order? Edited by nNeo, Mar 27 2018, 12:24 PM.

I'm not seeing a "breakdown in society". There was more violent crime in the 1980s-90s than there is now. The political climate is divisive, but no more so than in the 1960s. Overall there's never been a better time to be alive. If you think the world is suddenly going to hell, change your media source, they are serving paranoia for ratings. Better still, turn it off, go outside and chat with your neighbors. There are lots of lovely people out there. |

Cute. I don't work for CNN or MSNBC. You want Gish gallop, it won't come from me. What is it with you and leftists think you have a "fix" for every problems that are out there? Instead of trying to fix the problem and with the help of the media, leftists use this Gisb galloping technique to pray on children and pat yourself on the back. Also, if the left are so good at fixing problems, why is the country more divisive and segregrated than ever? I thought the situations were bad when Bush got elected but the country turned into a giant crapper during 8 years of Obama. We all know what excuse leftists are gonna use for the demise. |

How do you explain the quality of life in CA ranked at the bottom whereas Iowa ranked first. That was not the case 30 or 40 years ago. How is it that a state that proclaimed itself as an innovator, pioneer, revolutionary, multiculturalism, tolorance, etc have such low standards of living. CA should have the same or exceed the standards of living in S. Korea and Japan. The state is light years behind. |

I have no idea who ranked that way, or why, but that has nothing to do with the topic, nor is it my responsibility to explain it. I like CA, though it's crowded and expensive. Crowded and expensive suggest lots of people still want to live there. |

Gee, I guess you don't remember the group tantrum that called itself "The Tea Party". And lets not forget about the Birthers. We don't even have to go back 24 hours to see a myriad of examples of conservative hatred and division... Emma Gonzalez and her fellow students. Endless lies. Endless name calling I guess there are no mirrors on your side. |
