BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Pushed by a wave of demonstrations by women’s groups, the homeland of Pope Francis seems closer than ever to legalizing abortion.

The protests and shifting public opinion have led conservative President Mauricio Macri to call for Congress to launch a debate on a broader legalization of abortion in Argentina, which currently allows the procedure only in cases of rape or risks to the mother’s health.

A bill allowing elective abortion in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy was introduced in Congress earlier this year with the backing of 70 lawmakers from across the political spectrum. The bill needs 129 votes in the 257-seat lower house and then would go to the Senate. The lower house vote is expected in June. Macri has said that even though he remains anti-abortion, he would not veto the bill if passed.

Argentine Women March for Abortion Rights in #NotOneMore March
Quote:

Thousands took to the streets of Buenos Aires Monday for the third anniversary of the #NiUnaMenos, or #NotOneMore (Woman) march. While in previous years, the march predominantly protested against gender-based violence, this year it focused on the legalization of abortion.

Some people should not reproduce, especially in South America. Abortion is an answer, maybe not the best answer. but it's effective. Go for it, suck it out and experiment on it. Argentine women need to understand there's money in aborted children, they should consult the American liberal for advice.

Let's go with your statement, I mean, not that it was true, the whole PP thing was debunked months ago, I mean, really, all the anti-abortion crowd had were heavily edited tapes in their "sting"?

If it's a women's issue of privacy, then the decision is hers, if it's a property issue, then it's still a woman's decision...and really what would you want done with fetal material after an abortion? What, bury it? Or perhaps use the remains to further medicine and science in other fields previously unknown? The Stem cells alone can benefit half a dozen fields.

If the fetus is the property of the woman, then she should be paid a going rate for the stem cells of her dead fetus....I can visualize a whole new industry created for welfare mommas...One that can buy them a brand new car...............

I'm not part of the anti-abortion crowd and I'm not here to preach morality, if you believe abortion is birth control then that's your business. The cruel fact is most of the planet would do society a favor by not reproducing. I prefer sterilization, it's a better, cheaper long term solution but I don't have the final say. I do however find it interesting the most intelligent creatures on the planet appear to have the least respect for the unborn.

Argentina steps closer to legalising abortion
Quote:

Catholic Argentina's lower house has backed a bill legalising abortion in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

After a divisive debate lasting more than 22 hours, 129 members of the Chamber of Deputies voted in favour and 125 against while one abstained.
Quote:

The bill will now go to the Senate, where it is expected to be put to a vote in September.

Analysts say it faces an uphill battle in the upper chamber, where a number of senators have already expressed their opposition.

I imagine that all these ludicrous comments that you have been popping onto this thread is a self-imposed training programme with the aim that one day you actually might post something worth debating? Going out on a limb here; just call me an incurable optimist.
