So let's see run down the list.

Mental health issues - Check
Previous run ins with law enforcement - Check
Police fail to stop him as he works his way up to the shooting getting bolder each time - Check.
Had his guns confiscated only to get them back from police despite all the mental issues - Check.

So again we have a case of a guy who was literally trying to get himself arrested and he gets ignored by the police. Now, what does most of the media blame the attack on? The AR-15 and the NRA. Go figure.

Folks, this is the point that if we had a swift justice system we would just take this kid out back and put a bullet in his brain and then we would erase his name from the history books. No 15 minutes for him. But, unfortunately, that is not how this is going to end.
Forgot one.

White - Check
You have a point. Most of the folks that the media calls mass shooters are white. Of course that is because generally speaking the media does not care when black folks get shot up in large numbers and therefor they don't make a big deal about it. Then again, maybe it is just because folks who are not asian or white tend to shoot up their neighborhoods so often that it is not really news when it happens.

Do you really want me to list all of the drive by shootings, party shooting, club shootings, etc etc that are performed by ethnic minorities?

I guess you may have one point. These white guys are sometimes legally in possession of the firearms they use. That is rarely the case with the minority mass shooters.

But hey, good job making something that was not intended to be about race into yet another unnecessary race issue.
I just meant that if he wasn't white, the police would have a higher chance of shooting him the first incident, hence the ideal solution you were seeking.
This suspect had white privilege..........

He didn't get his firearms back from police. His idiot father who I hope is charged as an accessory for providing the weapon did.

More irresponsible behavior around firearms. - Check!
AR-15, weapon of choice - Check!

Do you have a link to the information about the father?

This was in the article

Quote:

Last July, Reinking was arrested by the U.S. Secret Service after he crossed into a restricted area near the White House and refused to leave, saying he wanted to meet President Trump.

Reinking was not armed at the time, but at the FBI's request, Illinois state police revoked Reinking's state firearms card and seized four of his guns, authorities said. The AR-15 used in the shootings on Sunday was among the firearms seized.

So the exact weapon he used was seized at the request of the FBI and at some point it was returned. Obviously, if you have further details I would like to see them. If for some reason the guns were given back to the father and then he let this mentally unstable person have them then I agree with you about him being complicit in the crime.

PATruth has told us that the main source of our social problems is bad parenting. This daddy, who gave his deranged son the guns the police had confiscated from him is a great example.
GA, do you have a link to a source that says the weapons were returned to his father?

I asked C2C if he had a link to that information but he has yet to get back to me.

Was the info omitted in Fox News?
Fox News only listed the most recent event and they listed that the local police took them at the behest of the FBI.

What neither FNC nor CNN made clear is that legally, these firearms were never taken away. As I understand the CNN article, the FBI requested that the guns be confiscated but that the local police in Illinois did not think that they had legal authority to actually confiscate the weapons.

Quote:

In August, the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office seized four firearms and ammunition from Reinking's apartment along with his state firearm owners identification, according to an incident report. Officers gave the firearms and ammo to Reinking's father, who said he would keep them away from his son, the report states.
"The officers did not believe they had any legal authority to withhold the weapons," said Tazewell County Sheriff Robert Huston on Sunday. "We need to be on solid legal ground in order to seize someone's property."

As an adult in his late 20's, if those guns were purchased by Travis Reinking then his father had zero legal authority to keep the guns from him. He actually had less authority than the police who at least were acting on a request from federal law enforcement authorities.

I do not know if the father is legally responsible for any crime at this point. Back when I thought that his guns had been legally confiscated there is a chance that the father was guilty of something had he given the weapons to someone who he knew was not legally allowed to have them. If proceedings were never taken to deny Travis of his right to bear arms then he may have been in legal possession of those weapons. I would have to check the TN and IL laws on that.

Florida just passed a law that increases the power of law enforcement to confiscate and hold the weapons of the mentally ill. That appears to be what was needed here.

America's gun culture is a Southern gun culture. Sons learn from the Daddies. A Dad teaching his son to hunt is one of the icons in the Southern myth. This Dad wasn't up to the job.

Police said Reinking had his Illinois gun license revoked last year at the request of the FBI and four of his weapons were seized by authorities in Tazewell back in October.

With better gun control, the shooter would not have had his AR-15 grabbed out of his hands....We need more gun control......... :oyvey

GA, I don't know if you are aware of this or not but Illinois is not a southern state.

Illinois is a state with a very big cultural difference between Chicago and the Kentucky border. Take Route 70 some day from Chesterfield to Terre Haute and see what I mean. I appreciate your willingness to help me out with geography and it is in that spirit that I return the favor.
