Republican candidate Debbie Lesko won a special election for a U.S. House seat in Arizona Tuesday night, to replace former Rep. Trent Franks, who resigned in December over sexual misconduct allegations.

Lesko, a former state senator, defeated Democrat Hiral Tipirneni to keep the 8th Congressional District seat in Republican control.

So a Republican wins in a deeply conservative seat that went 53-46, 52-46, 62-37, and 58-37 (Republican/Democrat respectively) in the last four presidential elections - and boosts a Cook rating of R+13.

Yeah....sure....that's a "total" mark against the Democrats...

Even waves run into rocks that don't move, friend. Give it time - this is just one single congressional race in a long election season.

In 2016, Republican Trent Franks won Arizona #08 with 68 percent of the vote. In percentage-points margins, he won by +37.

The special, April 24, 2018 election for Arizona #08 resulted in a Republican hold for Debbie Lesko prevailing with 52 percent of the vote. In percentage-points margins, her victory was +5.

What this means is, comparing these two elections, Lesko severely underperformed Franks by –32 percentage points. That also means a Democratic shift of +32.

I think most politicial insiders are assuming, with the midterm elections of 2018, the U.S. House will flip from Republican to Democratic. What is not easy to try to figure is…is how many seats?

Current predictions are 25-30, not sure it's enough to save Pelosi, which is too bad from the Republican perspective.

Every little bit helps. I'd just like to see less politics and more governing, more representation of all not just lobby groups/special interests. Alas...*shrugs* politics is a rich person's world.
