http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/05/02/c-130-military-transport-plane-crashes-near-airport-in-savannah-faa-says.html A Puerto Rican Air National Guard military aircraft with nine people on board crashed and burst into flames shortly after takeoff from a Georgia airport Wednesday, and officials said there appeared to be no survivors. The WC-130 plane was being flown into retirement when it crashed on a highway just before 11:30 a.m., shortly after takeoff from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. “There has been a plane crash at the intersection of Hwy 21 at Crossgate Rd. Roads will be shut down. Please avoid the area,” Chatham EMA tweeted shortly after the incident. Photos from the ground showed a section of the plane engulfed by fire and thick black smoke billowing to the sky. Only the tail section of the aircraft was intact. |

There is video out there of this crash. This type of aircraft can fly with one or two engines out. It looks like the pilot either stalled the aircraft and could not recover or the pilot had some kind of health emergency and the plane crashed because of that. It was an old aircraft being flown to retirement out at Davis-Monthan but the way that it went in does not look like a system failure, it looked like a stall. I suppose the hydraulic system could have failed leading to the pilot having control issues but that system has multiple redundancies on that aircraft. |

Agreed, a real shame that all hands were lost. Lucky that nobody on the ground was harmed. |
