Leftism has been popular with college faculty since the Russian Revolution. The preference has been more pronounced in the USA than in most of our peer nations. The reasons for this are not simple, although there are more Ph.D. profs from working class homes in the US than in most of Europe. America's public universities have played a role in this and the anti-intellectualism of the religious right has certainly helped as well. |
