The New York Times is reviewing the work history of reporter Ali Watkins after her email and phone records were seized by prosecutors as part of a federal leak investigation -- and her romantic relationship with a former Senate aide at the center of the probe was made public.

Adding to the intrigue, new accounts have also emerged claiming Watkins was approached last summer by a government official who knew about the relationship and tried to get her help tracking down leakers.

Watkins, who joined the Times in December, had a romantic relationship with then-Senate Intelligence Committee aide James A. Wolfe, 57, that ended last year. Wolfe was indicted last week on three counts of lying to FBI agents and was accused of leaking information to the media.

The Times said it is now looking into Watkins' involvement in Wolfe’s case, her relationship with Wolfe and how much she disclosed to her former employers. She disclosed that relationship to the Times. But before joining the New York Times, the 26-year-old reporter covered the Senate Intelligence Committee for Politico, BuzzFeed News, the Huffington Post and McClatchy (as an intern).

A fascinating story....

Liberal women "screwing their way to the top." Me-too'ers.

It reminds me of reading the biography of one Katie Couric a few years back. Member her? Cute. Pugnacious. The kid next door.

She too had a relationship with "older guy" 55+, station manager somewhere in Georgia. Launched her career! Opened all kinds of doors for her, NBC etc.

To all liberal women: Wanna succeed? See the old geezer in the corner, the guy who owns the place (?). Well, you know what to do now!

Senate staffer charged with lying to FBI files for gag order on Trump, others

The Senate staffer charged with lying to the FBI filed a motion on Tuesday to prevent those involved with his case, including President Trump, from publicly speaking about it, CNN reported.

James Wolfe, the former security director for the Senate Intelligence Committee, said that comments made by Trump and senior Justice Department officials have threatened his right to a fair trial.

Wolfe wants “to prevent the most visible and powerful representatives of the party seeking to convict him of serious crimes from making public statements that jeopardize his right to an impartial jury,” his attorneys said, according to CNN.

Last week, Trump said, “It's very interesting that they caught a leaker ... it's a very important leaker.”
