Nikki Haley: ‘It is patently ridiculous for the United Nations to examine poverty in America’

A United Nations report condemning entrenched poverty in the United States is a “misleading and politically motivated” document about “the wealthiest and freest country in the world,” according to the Trump administration's ambassador to the world body.

U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley criticized the report for critiquing the United States' treatment of its poor, arguing that the United Nations should instead focus on poverty in developing countries such as Burundi and Congo. The U.N. report also faulted the Trump administration for pursuing policies it said would exacerbate U.S. poverty.

Is the Ambassador trying her best to state we don't have such poverty as can be found in Burundi or the Congo?

On the flip side in defense of the Ambassador, her statements on poverty elsewhere in the world are more then pertinent, they should be studying Asia and Africa.

In all honestly, Republicans have been fighting a war on the poor for several decades, and they're winning.

She is correct, welfare in the US amounts to more than the average Cuban earns. Poverty in the US is most often a self inflicted injury. Drug abuse, alcoholism and laziness are choices. Help is there for anyone that wants it but most refuse. America's War on Poverty is ironically the biggest long term cause of poverty. 20+ TRILLION dollars has been sent to destroy the family structure and encourage government dependence. The core problem is poverty is a political business that provides a very loyal base for the democrat party. Also, importing MILLIONS of poor illiterate peasant has done wonders to escalate poverty in the US.

Republicans see poverty in the U.S. as something that doesn't deserve to be addressed until our poor are as poor as those of third world countries.

I seem to remember that Hugo Chávez gave gas/diesel free of charge to America's poor, which didn't go down very well at the time - H

Getting the US out of the UN is a high priority for the Trump-Putin coalition, as are interment camps with a 20,000 capacity on military bases. Ah, it takes me back to my days of youth under Tricky Dick Nixon!
