5 worst right-wing moments of the week — Jeffrey Lord continues his Trump apology tour; The CNN analyst blames protests on the "violent left," while Fox News celebrates St. Patrick's Day as only it can

As anti-Trump protesters gathered in New York and Arizona, Donald Trump continued his petty spats with Megyn Kelly and Mitt Romney. Because that seemed really important to him, and he never forgets a slight.

The candidate continued his mostly inane babbling on the campaign trail, questioning Mitt Romney’s Mormonism for no apparent reason except that it popped into his free-associating mind, and asserting that he talks to himself for advice on foreign policy because he has “a very good brain.” Meanwhile, his insane spokespeople, Katrina Pierson and Jeffrey Lord, just kept saying things that had everyone scratching their heads. Seriously, WTF is wrong with these people?

They were scratching their heads because they're too dumb to follow what they saying. Not the spokespeople's fault lefties are slow.

5 worst right-wing moments of the week — Michele Bachmann belongs with these lunatics

The former congresswoman blames Obama for Brussels, while Trump reminds us he's not just playing a lout on TV

No one wants to think about Ted Cruz having sex. People also do not want to think about Donald Trump’s penis. And yet, both of these visions have been injected into our national psyche. Can a traumatized nation ever recover from these disturbing images? Probably not.

In the scheme of things, the week’s manufactured sex scandal was pretty tame; sliming some far-right Christian candidate’s sex life is just good, old-fashioned, dirty American politics, after all. And though it obviously upset Ted Cruz, it barely cracks the top 100 shittiest things Trump has ever done (or in this case is supposed to have done). Trump did bring his own uniquely low-brow sensibilities to the whole wife-measuring contest this week, but that is merely par for his nightmarishly insane misogynistic course.

These are the days when the insanity of Trump keeps outpacing the ability of even the most nimble-minded pundit to wrap one’s head around it all. But we will persevere. In that spirit, here are the most vile and ridiculous right-wing moments in the week that was.

5 worst right-wing moments of the week — Sarah Palin is speaking pure gibberish at this point

The former Alaska governor leaves even her supporters dumfounded, while Katrina Pierson blows her top on CNN

Sadly, as many a comedian noted on Friday, Donald Trump did not come out and announce that his whole campaign has been a giant April Fools’ joke gone badly and dangerously astray. Trump did attempt to declare his call for a ban on abortion, and his statement that women should be punished for having illegal abortions, a kind of April Fools’ prank. Just kidding, he seemed to say. I was misquoted. I mispoke. The media has it in for me. It’s very unfair.

It may be April, and Donald Trump may be a fool, but this campaign is no joke, as it is becoming frighteningly more clear with each passing day. Still, here are some knee-slapping moments offered up by Trump proxies and other assorted right-wingers this week.

5 worst right-wing moments of the week — Paul LePage is really this sadistic

Maine's Tea Party governor argues drug addicts be left to die, while Trump outs himself as a complete charlatan

Donald Trump got oh-so-presidential this week. Being presidential for Donald Trump consists of insulting Harriet Tubman (as, gasp, politically correct), imitating call center workers with Indian accents, and magnanimously suggesting his fellow Republican reality show star, Caitlyn Jenner, should get to use whatever bathroom she wants. Whoa. Impressive.

That last one earned NBC’s comment that Trump is “LGBT-friendly,” apparently revealing an extremely low bar at the network.

It’s a low bar for Trump in general, of course. Or as Van Jones put it to Bill Maher Friday night, “Just because he didn’t drop trou [translation, trousers] in one speech, doesn’t mean he should be on Mt. Rushmore.”

Here are some lowlights from the far right this week.
