Windows 10 market share hits 20 percent after eight months, but issues remain

Despite Microsoft’s best attempts to lure computer users into upgrading to Windows 10, the firm’s efforts seem to be resulting in diminishing returns. Based on usage data for a host of government websites, only one in five Windows PC users are running Microsoft’s latest and greatest — an alarmingly low number for an operating system that has been out for the better part of a year.

Microsoft plans to end its “free upgrade” period in July, an offer that it likely expected far more people to take advantage of. After all, Windows 10 has been shown to operate as well (if not better) than previous Windows versions on aging hardware, and there are a lot of compelling reasons to upgrade.

That will change when users realize that Vista and Windows 7and 8 are no longer supported or updated and become venerable. Has been the case when new windows OS comes out.

And this final straw is why I'm moving my computer needs to a MAC for my next purchase.

Since some several days, I also own a cheap Asus e-202 Notebook from the Far-East, OS - WX. Was unable to get online via an old USB-Stick; phone-shop here sold me a new stick, and set up the wireless connection for me. Tried again just now; as to no avail. Functioned in the shop, though.

I usually give Microsoft 2 or 3 years after the first release of a product, to fix bugs, before I use it.

Windows 10 is a solid product. Superior to Windows 8 and even Windows 8.1 and on par with Windows 7.

The real question all Windows 7 users should ask themselves is: Will my computer live longer than Microsoft is going to support Windows 7. If the answer to this is yes and your machine has decent hardware then you should go ahead and get the free Windows 10. If on the other hand your PC is from 2009 or 2010 and you will probably have to replace it in the next year or so then you should simply leave it running Windows 7 and buy a new PC when you are ready.

My box is an MSI mother board with an Intel i5 5440 that handles windows 10 just fine.

I built it initially for Windows 7, later I upgraded to 8, transitioning to 10 was a breeze.

I do plan to move out of SATA into a solid state environment in the near future.

Windows 10 is rock solid.

How to Keep Windows 10 From 'Spying' on You

Shall slowly plough my way thru WX.
Gotta get rid of all the spy-pitfalls thereof.
Shall keep this primitive cheap Asus-thing as a guinea-pig.
Thus said I ...

Start by getting to know what your settings let you do. From there learn what control panel let's you tweak.

Privacy, you are a target anytime you turn on any device connected to the internet. Got a webcams, what about those nice sites you go to that feeds you cookies..... what data is collected may surprise you.

No Windows, Linux or Mac is free of data collecting cookies.

Thanks, Maestro Edro the Great!
Adjusted some stuff already; lots more to do.
WX is new to me; that is why I used my 2nd Nick, dustmitesail; an ordinary simple user.
Talking about manipulating/spying: Was Cortana developed in North-Korea? :naughtynice:
Moreover, WX looks like an amalgamation of Windows & FireFox.

I think the key to modern day windows is the use of apps and how to tweak the settings.

You learn to hate them at first, later as you know your way around you love them.

I went out and bought a windows 10 tutorial book.

Shall try to hop around the system files, and de-activate and/or rename them on the morrow.
For now, the crap is on the back-burner.

Guinea-pig and her cheap Asus back via Windows 10.
Managed to change Skin from Ledger-Green to Red-Fire, for more contrast.
Shall try and tackle Cortana on the morrow, or so. .

Wife did the change over to 10 and it was a mess.

She stripped it out the same day.
