| Someone thought this was a good idea: Mississippi Senate passes bill allowing churches to form militias; Perhaps the scariest part is how relatively easy it is to join a "church security team" and bring your gun to mass | |

The Mississippi Senate on Tuesday passed “Mississippi Church Protection Act, opening the door to houses of worship forming militias there. The Act would, in part, “provide that killing a person while acting as a participant of a church or place of worship security team is justifiable homicide.” Such church security teams would authorize “designated members … to carry firearms for the protection of the congregation of such church or place of worship.” Permissible firearms, according to the bill, include “a stun gun, concealed pistol or concealed revolver.” The bill will now return to the House of origin for further deliberation before it reaches Republican Gov. Phil Bryant’s desk. What the Act effectively allows is for churches to form militias. And the red-tape requirements to form these armed militias are only marginally more stringent than getting a firearms permit in the state of Mississippi. Assuming you already have a permit, all you need to do is take “an instructional course in the safe handling and use of firearms,” and then, congratulations, you’re certified to pack heat at your church! http://www.salon.com/2016/03/31/someone_thought_this_was_a_good_idea_mississippi_senate_passes_bill_allowing_churches_to_form_militias/ |

Ahmmm...guys...I'd hardly call the weapon of choice for a militia to be a pistol or a taser? |

Mature Boy Scouts maybe....but hardly calls for a militia. My own employer had paid armed security, hardly what I'd call a militia either. |

We had armed security where I worked up until some cowboy shot the window out in the guard shack spinning his pistol. |

Good guys wear white hats

It's possible that this move by the MS legislature is in response to this incident in Memphis last week. But I don't really understand why they need a law for this, I would think that a church could have armed security if they felt it was warranted. Sounds like an extra layer of protection for church security members, not unlike the "stand your ground" law in Florida. |

Republicans sign checks on the front, democrats sign them on the back…True story! | |

If you know the type of sinners who go to church to look for redemption, everyone should carry a gun there...... :-/ |
