Someone thought this was a good idea: Mississippi Senate passes bill allowing churches to form militias; Perhaps the scariest part is how relatively easy it is to join a "church security team" and bring your gun to mass

Tuna...Let me ask you... In place of "militia" what would you prefer they called these church going security teams?

I can't answer that. But let me ask you...when you read the word "Militia" what imagery comes to mind, and how does that image compare to what this bill describes?

LOL, good answer, on the comparison part of the question, but what goes through your mind when you imagine "militia"?

BTW..Off Topic, but did you check out that plasma cutter I recommended? I'm lovin mine. Spent most of yesterday designing and building a radius cutting guide from bits and pieces cobbled together from the local Ace Hardware.

My take on militias isn't especially flattering of them. I think of them as wannabes that fall a good bit short of the military they wish they had been.
They are dangerous because they take bits and pieces of ideology and cobble together the best kind of force they can. Most times they are ill trained and ill prepared to be a military organization. They are a joke, but a dangerous joke.

I looked at that plasma cutter.... Really nice. My workshop space is in my basement and I don't have a garage. I'd like to build a workshed sooner or later to do hot work because as it is now I cut and weld under my deck and that is pretty seasonal.

As it is I have a full size oxy-acetylene setup and three welders to do that sort of work. But I haven't done as much of it as I used to do.

I would say for the most part, that's an honest and accurate description, and in giving it, you've answered the question as to why it is so disingenuous and dishonest to describe these parishioners (by any other name) as a "militia" Articles such as the OP are contrived and constructed, carefully worded to invoke those scary images. You've only to read some of the replies on this thread to judge exactly how successful they ply their wares.

I gotta run Gents....My goal for the day is to finish that radius guide. I could have bought one on line for between $75.00 and $150.00 but where's the fun in that when I can build one myself and spend nearly twice that.

Have a good day.

Yep. I think Tuna is over-reacting here..not by a little bit.
But indignance over semantics has always been his wheelhouse.

Maybe they could have called it the clusterf**k that it is and it would have been more acceptable to him?

LOL :rotflmao: , Now Now Demmie. I understand, being the purveyor of the lie on this thread, you'd be humiliated and embarrassed, but do you have to lash out at the "rabid" right because you fell into your own dump. So..clean the shyt off your shirt tail and move on honey. Or...go ahead and tell us that it's "only semantics" and how the word "militia" DIDN'T invoke images of big scary, unshaven camo-wearing, semi-auto carrying, confederate flag waving, snuff dippin, beer drinkin, cousin marryin boogie-men.

LOL, go ahead, Throw another lie out there and pretend that didn't happen and it's only "semantics"

No one is lying, little man. Had you looked at the various definitions of militia you would realize that's what these people are attempting to be...
