| It's time to talk about 'black privilege'; "In America you can't even talk about whiteness," | |

Here's some good news for all you black folks complaining about racism in America. You don't know how good you have it. At least that's the message I heard during one of the strangest conversations I've ever had about race. I was talking about the concept of white privilege -- the belief that being white comes with unearned advantages and everyday perks that its recipients are often unaware of. I asked a white retiree if he believed in the existence of white privilege. He said no, but there was another type of privilege he wanted to talk about: "Black privilege." http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/30/us/black-privilege/index.html |

Some say that the high seat in the belly of the slave ship was the beginning of black privilege. Those folks are known as morons Edited by CautionaryTales, Apr 2 2016, 02:20 PM.

That's rather strange since it was founded in 1909, in a time when a black man could be hung for just about anything in the South, when he was still considered less then a human being BY LAW mind you, where his ability to vote restricted severely. When Jim Crow was the law of the land. When the Civii Rights Act would not be passed for another 50 years...rather hard to see Black privilege existing when you said it did... Oops..my bad...did I just school you without thinking bout it? |

Every journey starts with a step. Without the NAACP paving the way, Blacks wouldn't be where at are at today in America. You should start schooling yourself first. |

We are not talking about a slave ship. Like it or not, the NAACP paved the way. If you don't believe in Black privilege, then you agree the NBA and NFL are racist organizations. |

What about Caucasians, whose ancestors stole the lands from the indigenous population? |

I am not Caucasian. I wouldn't be able to answer that for you. You are Caucasian and should have the answer. My opinion, the Indians never really declared they "owned" the land and if they did, they probably owned a really small percentage of America. Perhaps you should ask if we should return the South Western US to Mexico. After all, we did steal it from the Mexicans through war. |

I don't know that I'd call it "black privilege" but it is certainly true that blacks enjoy certain social advantages that whites do not just as whites enjoy certain social advantages that blacks do not. The problem is that neither side likes to admit this about themselves. Both prefer to see themselves as victims. On the whole, whites certainly have an overall edge as they receive more social advantages than blacks. But both sides very clearly have them. |

There were over 500 separate Tribes on the North American continent stretched from West Coast to East PRIOR to the coming of the white man here. Not even counting the great Meso-American civilizations of Central and South America. Your opinion is as badly given as is your knowledge of history. You and Philly should colloborate on such matters. |

The Amerindians endured immigration and now they live on reservations. Thank you for your historical example of what happens when leaders fail to secure national borders and immigration laws are not enforced for the benefit of a well-connected elite. |

Those 500 tribes would probably fit in South Dakota. The point is not many of these tribes declared that they "owned" the land., Why are you so cranky now as the election is nearing? |

Without the NAACP, we would not see so many Black actors and actresses, sportrs, and of course higher education. Are you in favor of eradicating the NAACP? |

Of course. That makes perfect sense. Just because your people have lived on a particular piece of land for a hundred generations and then another group of people comes in to take it away from you, you really have no room for complaint if you haven't "officially" declared it to be your land, rather than just living on it for generation after generation after generation. Fun fact, according to common law the ownership of a piece of property can legally transferred from one person to another if the other person simply "squats" on the land long enough. It's called "squatters rights" or "adverse possession". According to the law simply occupying a piece of land for a set duration without complaint by the "official" owner can transfer the ownership of that property. I'm thinking that a hundred generations would be sufficient time to establish common law ownership. Whaddaya think? |

The Indian tribes never declared the owned the land. Defacto ownership, perhaps. They only declared landownership when the Europeans arrived. Still, it was vague because they were no real established borders at the time. Any one tribe can declare they owned the entire Eastern seaboard. Sail won't answer this. Will you? Should we return the Southwestern US to Mexico? They did declare they owned the land. |
