BEAUMONT — Beaumont Independent School District police and administrators are investigating an Ozen High School teacher after video surfaced online of her hitting a student in class.

Students in Mary Hasting's math class recorded her hitting a student multiple times before mimicking him.

The video was recorded around 10:45 a.m. on Friday.

Hastings was arrested by police and taken to the Jefferson County Jail.

Obviously there is more to the story here. Hopefully the police will be able to subpoena the full video to show what caused this incident to happen.

Even in Texas teachers do not just start beating kids around the neck and head without provocation.

How soon until leftists call this racially motivated? Although I do not agree with this teacher's method, this kid probably gotten a wake call from this teacher more than he has from his parents.

This is light consider what teachers do to students in Asia for lacking discipline while in class. Plus, in Asia, students are taught to stand up when the teacher enters the room to start class, as a show of respect to the elderly.
Kate Steinle was separated from her family permanently but leftists didn't seem to mind.

We don't know what provocation preceded the beating. I'm sure something set her off, but no amount of provocation deserves her response.

She's the adult in this situation and should show some self control accordingly. Shameful.

I don't know, I have teenage kids. I have seen how some of their friends act towards their parents and yes even their teachers.

Mine do not act that way because they know something very much like this might happen to them if they were to be disrespectful to their teachers. Mind you, she lost control and that is not the proper way to administer discipline to a student. Where I live the county still has corporal punishment but the parent of the student has to opt into it. Of course if a kid does something that calls for them to get swats with the "board of education"

Then the discipline is handled by the dean. There is a female dean for the female students and a male dean for male students. For a teacher to just go off like this is a very odd case that is why I said I wonder what he did to set her off.

Incidentally, in my county, if a kid is disrespectful of their parents then the police would kind of expect you to give them a little attitude correction. As I said, there is something more to this story, I would like to see the whole video.

With that said, she probably did over react. Unless of course he touched her or threw something at her. If he did that then he deserves what he got and more. If I ever did something like that when I was a kid the beating I would fear most would be the one I was gonna get when I got home.

There are cameras everywhere. People cannot get away with the things that used to be ignored. That's a fact of life, and people need to understand that stuff like this will very likely get you caught.
It's a different world than it was twenty or even ten years ago.
It isn't d'gummints that has a camera on your every move, it is the people that you are surrounded with.

And yeah... There is more to the story and the teacher was wrong, so was the kid in all likely the case.

While she is smacking him upside the head she says "Because you are stopping them from graduating you idiot ass"

The video conveniently (for the student) does not include what came before the smackdown. If this were my kid I would not be pissed, I would want to know what happened to lead to it.

"Get a belt." were the three words I feared more than death itself. One time my dad sent me to the closet for that very reason. I returned with a satin sash from one of my mother's robes. He laughed so hard he couldn't whip me.

It only worked that one time.

My mom would just beat me..when I was about fourteen, I smarted off and she started beating on me..the more she hit me..the harder I laughed.
After that..she would lock up my record collection as punishment.

Yeah, if one of you parents (this was usually a female parent or grandparent) sent you out to "get a switch" for them to apply discipline with it was always a double punishment because you had to pick wisely lol.

Typically with my teens the punishment is taking away the luxuries they are used to. Phone, internet etc. Of course they were raised with real corporal punishment so the threat of that is there. Our son did the laugh thing at his mom once when he was 16. Then I explained that if he felt like he was a man that I would be happy to deal out a manly punishment. The problem was solved.

I am certain many parents would agree with you. Then again, I have seen kids in a class who deserved exactly what that kid got so I can't totally throw her under the bus without seeing the rest of the video.

As I pointed out earlier, in schools where they do allow corporal punishment there is usually a very specific way that it is enforced and a designated person who metes out the punishment. The exception here is probably parochial and Jesuit schools. The nuns and others who teach in those places do not play and will wield a yard stick like a samurai warrior if you cross the line.

If it were one of my kids it would depend on which kid. I have two where I would ask what they did to deserve the punishment before being irate at the teacher. I have one who it is almost inconceivable that she would be the problem at least in a manner that would cause the type of reaction the teacher had. I say this because two of my kids are normal rebellious high school kids who think they know way more than they do. The one girl though, she really is that smart and really does look at things different. I have not yet decided if she is Holmes or Moriarty lol but she certainly would not be undone in her scheme by the wits of a mere high school teacher.

Here is a link that has the video without the talking heads speaking over the video. And you are right, the hand of justice was swift and on target. :punch:
