Very, Very annoying Pop Up; A mail pop up stops other work

This:

Server error: 0x80004005
Sever: https://m.hotmail.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80004005

pops up randomly.

Sometimes have to physically delete it with the x button or just click somewhere on your page but it just pops up even when you aren't emailing.
So many cures suggested so many failures.
Frustrating of course.

Any clues?

Malwarebytes is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and the premium edition is even better.

I have Malwarebytes Premium running. It's been Checking for updates for 3 hours at this post.
Hopefully the next few stages will find what is wrong and stop this annoying pop up.

Thanks Demagogue, wilmywood8455 and edro14.
We will see how this turns out.

Do you get the pop up on all browsers or just one? Also, what Web browser do you normally run?

Also, there should be an option to run a boot time scan with malwarebytes, it will scan the machine before windows is fully running. Sometimes that catches things that the regular scan does not.

I use Firefox, Chrome and Explorer.
The pop ups come at random times on whichever browser I am on.

I will look into the boot time scan.
I generally do not ever turn off my PC which is running Win7.

......the period during which Microsoft continues to provide for free security updates for products -- doesn't end until January 14, 2020 for Windows 7 SP1.

edro14 I won't move to Win10.
Everyone I have spoken to have recommended not doing this. There are too many hassles with 10 for me to trust the move.
I will go to Apple before moving to 10. It sounds like Vista or worse than 8.1. It's not a good move like those from 98 to XP and now to Win7.

Anyway the Malwarebytes team is on the job. I have sent a screen shot and it seems like there will be a result.

You have until Jan 14 2020 for the final end up support on Windows 7.

If you are using the system you got a couple years ago (the one you had a topic on the computer forum about) then staying with windows 7 is probably a good idea since the hardware in that machine will be obsolete before the end of support on win 7.

Also, good news from malwarebytes. Hopefully they can resolve this. Let us know what the solution was if they figure it out.

No luck with Malwarebytes:

"......thanks for the screenshot,

This error is related to your e-mail client and has nothing to do with malware or any browser. What I suggest is to check your e-mail login credentials and contact your e-mail service provider. They can assist you with troubleshooting.

So I guess Microsoft is my email client?
Good luck getting any answers from that massive forum of Q&A's.

Microsoft has user forums that discuss issues related to any problem 9S0, however you do have to learn to talk like a Microsoft teckkie.

Email client is usually something like Outlook, Thunderbird, Postbox, Lotus Notes, something like that. For people still living in the stone age then you might have AOL or Prodigy.

I looked at the tutorial and the only button I changed to Default was the email one which I changed to Windows Live Mail.
When I looked back just now the button has gone back to Use My Current Email.
I have 3 emails on this PC. @hotmail.com/ @live.com.au / @ dod.com.au

I appreciate your input Demagogue.

You may have tried this already but if you have not give it a shot.

As an initial troubleshooting step, let us try repairing Windows Live Mail first, please refer to the steps provided below:

1. Go to Control Panel then click Programs.
2. Click Programs and Features.
3. Right click Windows Live Essentials 2011 then click Uninstall/Change.
4. Select Repair all Windows Live programs in the dialog box.
5. Once the repair is done, reboot when asked.

Another options might be to force the machine to use a different email client. You might want to download Thunderbird (it is free) and then set it to default even if you don't set up an email on it. This would force the default email to be something you had control of at least.
