Without government, how will 90% of the populace smoke weed all night and sleep all day?

A Silicon Valley entrepreneur says basic income would work even if 90% of people smoked weed instead of working

The chief complaint people lodge at universal basic income — a form of income distribution that gives people money to cover basic needs regardless of whether they work or not — is that it'll make them lazy.

Sam Altman doesn't buy it.

Do 90% of people drink instead of work?
We believe only what we want to believe.

I bet Esti wouldn't be so angry all the time and twisting his panties about the hypothetical/untried Utopia of true anarchism if he smoked a little bud.

Why would they have to be if they received a universal basic income from big brother?

Uh because the people I refer to are doing what they love doing..they would do it anyway.

Making money and accumulating stuff isn't the only motivation in the human experience.

But until we have quantum replicators, moral people have to trade the productivity of their labor for the stuff they need and want.

That includes food, water and energy.

That day maybe coming sooner than you think..what would you do with yourself if capitalism was made obsolete?

The alternative is a government controlled economy.

I hope I am dead.

Not necessarily..if an individual/family was capable of generating all their own energy and food, who would need gubmint?

Perhaps your thinking is regressive.

He is not talking about the "state".

He was not "political"..he was an inventor

When the incentive to innovate vanishes - then we all become knowledge seekers, or more likely permanent fat xxxxs.

War has been crucial in driving innovation..you cannot deney this
How many of our modern conveniences have been born out of military impetus?

All Bucky is suggesting is that we take that folly of developing technology for war and replace it with the aim at improving all life.

Who said that incentive would vanish if we weren't chasing money all of our lives. If I was truly independent ( financially to give your perception some reference)..I would be making even more music than I do while working a full time job.
I would be volunteering at no kill shelters for animals and such. I would be collaborating with other like minded souls. most of all, I would be enjoying my time instead of spending eight hours a day doing something that was not pleasant.

What would you do with your time of you didn't have to chase money?

You mentioned 'quantum" replicators"...what if we were able to create all that we need ourselves and the structure of "central gubmint and capitalsm was no longer needed.
