Prosecutor Martín Niklison has filed a lawsuit against President Mauricio Macri and Lanús Mayor Néstor Grindetti in a new chapter of the Panamá Papers scandal.

They are accused of hiding offshore companies when they were both officials in the Buenos Aires city administration, news channel C5N reported this morning.

Prosecutor Estela Andrades requested to unify this probe with the already existing investigation into President Macri's participation in the Panamá Papers, in charge of judge Sebastián Casanello.

Arrest warrant against him active from 2012 to 2016
Lanús Mayor Néstor Grindetti forced to clarify mysterious Interpol notice
Quote:

Days after being mentioned in the “Panama Papers” investigation over his ties to offshore companies, Lanús Mayor Néstor Grindetti — a close ally of President Mauricio Macri — was forced to clarify information appearing on the Interpol website claiming that Brazil had issued an arrest warrant against him.

By doing so, however, Grindetti’s aides exposed the complicated legal situation of the Lanús mayor — namely, that an international arrest order had been active for him from 2012 until earlier this year.

A potential new chapter in the legal fallout of the “Panama Papers” scandal was opened yesterday after Federal Judge Sebastián Casanello sent legal requests to judicial authorities in the Bahamas and Panama, asking for their cooperation with an investigation into President Mauricio Macri’s ties to offshore companies.

The move draws the spotlight back onto the president and his alleged links to tax havens.

Judge asks Anti-Corruption Office to report ongoing investigations following Panama Papers

In a new twist resulting from the massive “Panama Papers” leak of documents exposing the offshore holdings of the rich and the powerful, a federal judge yesterday asked the Central Bank to provide information on all bank accounts tied to President Mauricio Macri.

The request, which will once again pile pressure on the president, comes as part of the investigation into whether he “maliciously” omitted his links to the offshore companies in his sworn statements as a public official.
