Publicly disagree with the opinions of fringe-left nutters and they might well come after you legally. Criminalizing opinion and thought has long been a goal of these miscreants.

You just lost this debate.

Not that you have a case to make but you did not even get one started before you punted.

This is a wonderful news. The suit is an investigation “that Exxon has engaged in activities that violate the statutes about obtaining money by false pretense and fraud,"

This is the second such litigation by a State’s Attorney General. New York did the same last year and there are bound to be more.

The Virgin Islands suit asks for 10 years of Exxon-related climate change records detailing “Exxon's emerging understanding of climate change science in the 1970s and its subsequent efforts to challenge the scientific consensus. These efforts included financing research organizations such as the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank.”

The suit claims “You are suspected to have engaged in, or be engaging in, conduct constituting a civil violation of the Criminally Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, misrepresenting your knowledge of the likelihood that your products and activities have contributed and are continuing to contribute to climate change in order to defraud consumers and the government”

We want to see the emails….

Sorry, but when the AG has an agenda to go after exclusively groups who refused to bow, that AG is no better than the Nazi.

Karmala Harris got shut down by a federal judge several weeks ago for targeting conservative donors. Let's hope these currently being targeted sue.

Not much different then when Big Tobacco was looked into for their false claims.

It's only a problem if there is something to hide.

Don't bother defending your Nazi analogy. You can't.

I especially like the email from Scot Kline dated 3/21/2016 detailing the pledge of the "Climate Coalition of Attorneys General"

Pledge

We pledge to work together to fully enforce the State and federal laws that require progressive action...

Support Progressive Federal Action...

Provide legal support to progressive state and regional actions...

Politics is a cancer on science.
The political war on climate science has been awful but successful. We know beyond all reasonable doubt that we're causing most recent warming and ExxonMobil have known for years. They knew, then, with other groups, they spent hundreds of millions of dollars on propaganda to attack science, trick people and buy politicians. Scientists and their work are still regularly smeared and they still receive death threats for reporting measured facts. George W Bush had an oil lobbyist censor scientific reports, Stephen Harpur banned scientists from talking to journalists without a government-appointed propaganda agent, Florida banned the words "climate change" and North Carolina tried to pass a law making it illegal for sea level rise to accelerate.

These things happened because groups who knew about the science on global warming decided to spread lies and misinformation. Maybe they were just in denial and truly believed that they, a bunch of PR agents and oil drillers, knew a lot more about climate physics than the world's climate physicists. If they knew but decided to lie to the public then they should be held liable for climate damages.

20 years of delay to climate policy are estimated to create net costs of about $12 trillion. It's also fair that we seek punitive damages as well - it's not right that taxpayers will have to pay to protect and then evacuate cities like Miami and New Orleans. These costs should be borne by those who lied to us for profit. It's up to the courts to work this out, but we should be thinking of the order of the low trillions for a realistic payout from these groups.

They're playing kick the can, or "kick the externalities until the oil runs out or we die", but the can is getting awfully heavy.
