Donald Trump's march to the White House encountered fierce resistance from his own party Thursday as senior lawmakers hesitated to endorse him, party luminaries said they'd skip his nominating convention and others pondered the potential of a third-party bid.

Would they be legally able to nominate someone else during their national convention? With this much resistance it wouldn't be surprising.

Trump's victory meant the end of the GOP.
It's a disruption and a change in direction, but don't count on it being the destruction of that party.
I have seen the prediction of the destruction of both parties and those predictions have always been overstated.
There is a reasonable chance that Democrats will fail to take advantage of the nomination of Trump and blow this election.
Democrats must play this election as if they are the underdog until it is over.

It's not about who wins or lose this one small election to have executive powers over the country for the next 4 years, but what's more important is the long term division that the GOP will never recover from. Many conservatives hate their own party and the only thing keeping Republicans together is that they hate liberals even more. Their presumptive nominee's feud with the establishment has been breaking the glue holding them all together.

In 1968 the Democratic Party exploded and melted into the ground...never to rise again..
Obviously this is something that isn't fully true.

Which forced the Dem party to reform in many good ways. The Dem party of today isn't the Dem party of 60's which was more like the GOP of today.

My guess is that whether Trump is actually chosen or not, a third party will rise and split the conservative's votes for a good long time to come. If Trump doesn't get nomination, he'll start that third party. If Trump does get the nomination, those Republicans that hate Trump will either jump to one of the existing 3rd parties.

In what world would Trump not be chosen at the convention?
Skipping leg day is the equivalent of a woman having an abortion. You're ashamed of it, and it was probably unnecessary.

Not as badly as in 2000 & 2004.

You're desperate.

You're desperate.
Not remotely. I just find it odd and sad that so many are so gullible. Lying for votes is nothing new, but Trump is pushing the envelope.

Trump hasn't gotten where he is now with the help of establishment Republicans...These political whores can whine, but most will not be around long after November...The Republican resistance fighters will be crushed like the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt....The Patriot Act may be used..............

The GOP is at war with itself over ideology. Considering the party has no leadership other than a reality show TV star and a few dysfunctional members of congress who can't even pass a budget. All things considered, I'd say the party is just about ready to implode.
