William Kristol, who has been a leading voice in the #NeverTrump movement, met with Mitt Romney this week to try to persuade the 2012 Republican nominee to enter the presidential race as an independent candidate, or at least support an anti-Trump movement.

Kristol, editor of the conservative Weekly Standard magazine, met privately with Romney on Thursday, the Washington Post reported.

Seems more likely Kristol is trying to ensure Trumps defeat than Romney's victory.

Nothing wrong with that.
As a side benefit, b 's loyalties would be sorely tested.

Kristol knows that Trump isn't going to win, but that millions of conservatives will stay home on election day rather than vote for Trump. That's going to cost the GOP the senate, and possibly the house, as well as many other down ticket races.

If conservatives have a motivation to vote, the damage can be minimized. All he needs now is a candidate that's willing to lose, while bringing out the vote.

You mean willing to not only lose, but also be black- listed by the party, forced into retirement if they hold an elected office, while also not being able to appear in public for a decade or more due to numerous threats. But there may be a bright side - perhaps this sacrificial lamb can land a book deal or two.

Honey, they just ate Mitt Romney and now they're having Paul Ryan for desert.

That's nice dear - just don't stay up too late. You know those new GOP reality shows give you nightmares.

It's not unusual for a politician to lose an election, and still maintain a quality life.

I'm just not really seeing Mitt Romney, two time Presidential loser, as being a serious motivation for people to run down to their polls to vote.
