http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/10/politics/us-china-destroyer-sails-by-disputed-island/index.html The U.S. Navy on Tuesday sent a guided missile destroyer within 12 miles of a disputed island in the South China Sea where China has built an airstrip -- prompting China to scramble fighter jets and dispatch warships to "expel" the American ship. |

Wait, according to Trump the U.S. is not doing anything about the South China Sea because we are weak and have cut the military so much they lose at everything. How can this be? |

Cost of one lone Arleigh Burke-class destroyer - $1.8 billion With the amount owed to China alone, they can buy 1000 of that ship. |

And your point being? Clearly what we owe the Chinese is not stopping us from representing the freedom of movement in the South China Sea |

Doesn't stop from borrowing money or having goods manufactured there, however. Not much of a boycott. |

Are we really doing anything? Have you heard what other lawmakers were saying to Obama? Why sail once every one, two, or three months? Why not on a weekly or bi-weekly basis? Using innocent passage means the US recognizes China's claim. Obama is too timid to publicly say, "we do not recognize your phony islands.". The Chinese president made it clear to Obama by saying the South China Sea is Chinese sovereignty. President Trump will change that. |

It's painful, isn't it to recognize that multipolar World is back? And the US is going downstairs, get used to the fact that US influence in the World is shrinking. And in all aspects the US has entered the final stage of its existence, it may take quite long, but as much as concept of (EU) multinational political union with separated economies has failed, as much a state with no ethnic identity - the US - is going to fail. The US was created Anglo-Saxon, assimilated Europeans could not dissolve it. Now Europe declines demographically, can't provide substatial white immigration, own WASP demographic grouth in the US is neglectable if exists at all, thus all other and not assimilating populations in the US will grow. It's a law of nature that tensions will rise and when the World economic crisis finally reaches its culmination - other multiethnic countries will just break up to ethnic pieces, but in the US it will be total war of all against all. in all cities, because all of them have ethnic areas. There will not be any stability until massive ethnic cleasnings are completed and certain monotonous ethnic regions are created. It means total, bloody and long ethnic-civil war. And it will start during any big economic crisis, maybe not this one but definitely within our childrens' life, maybe even ours... The US has no future in long term, much less than any other big country. On level of a concept, the very idea of non-ethnic state has already failed but not many of you dare or are able to comprehend it. The melting pot does not work. Just like the EU failed on conceptual level, there cannot be political unity without economic and social unity. The EU will torture its citizent until they realise it and divorce. The melting pot would work if it weren't for conservatives who can't learn to coexist with all the cultures that currently make up the nation instead of trying to assimilate all others living in America into their definition of what the ideal American should be like. |

Forced assimilation works sometimes even better than the one by will, but anyway it works if it can be achieved at all. In the US Blacks and Asians cannot be dissolved due to their appearance, Hispanic ones cannot be assimilated culturally and linguistically due to nighboring huge Hispanic neighbourhood and might. Besides, we have an anecdote here. In the US massive national protests started after in a fire in a block of flats - a family of single black mother with 4 children, the whole family of Arab immigrants, a Hispanic family - all died in a fire. The only ones who survived was a white couple. So, massive protests and demonstrations demanded an investigation. It was done and it turned out that they survived because they were the only ones who were at work ... I mean the pie is already shrinking and in future there will be more and more trouble in domestic affairs in the US. Edited by Siberian, May 11 2016, 05:25 AM.

All people need to do is tolerate one another and let everyone do what they want as long as it harms no one else. That's all there is to coexist- tolerance. No one should care if you read the Koran or follow the 10 Commandments or you are a Satanist, as long as you don't harm anyone else or try to make your religion the national religion and have whoever else who doesn't follow that religion made into 2nd class citizens. Racism is generally looked down upon in the country; it's mainly politics and religion that sets people aside. |

By the way, Zappy has been saying the US will fall for 10 years now. He was very much with the same kind of people who said oil will no longer be traded using US dollars. That was 25 years ago.

What boycott? And Chinese goods help us as much as them. People can afford things they couldn't before because of cheap overseas goods. Go to Walmart and tell the average American shopping there that they can't buy that stuff or will have to pay more. Good luck with that. |

The US doesn't seem to be going "downstairs". However your Mother Russia isn't doing so well. Seems the old Soviet propaganda machine isn't doing so well these days. |

I wonder what the redline for Obama is this time? If the land reclamation 125 miles off Philippines would take place, what will Obama do? Show us you got some skin. |

What would Russia send? the 35year old Udaloy-class, or the 1960's designed Sovremennyy-class.? oh.... and considering that between the 2 classes you have maybe 15 active ships... Russia wont be sending anything to ensure freedom of Navigation laws in the south China Sea.... |

Trump needs to focus more so on the male vote. He should have nationalized the Boy Scouts when they decided to admit girls. Harambe4Trump AKA "FASHY" | |

Russia and China are both playing keep-away on the high seas with the USA. This form of sabre rattling (rudder rattling?) is almost five centuries old. It has the advantage of being much more easily and professionally controlled than land-based confrontations over borders etc. (e.g. Ukraine) and, although frightfully expensive, can be reduced or suspended without negative public or legislative repercussions. In short: it is a safe and convenient way for nations to bitch and bluster over the back fence. It is also a great program for the Navy Department on both sides. The headlines today take me back to my days as a young boy when Jackie Fisher was tap dancing on the decks of his fabulous, new Dreadnought class of toys. |

President Trump will bring this country back to its status quo. Russia and China are just exploiting the weak leader in DC, nothing more. Trump will show these two who's yer daddy. |
