It wasn’t supposed to happen this fast. Some of the reefs around the Florida Keys are dissolving. They may have crossed a tipping point due to increasing ocean acidification, raising the alarm that climate change impacts in the ocean are continuing to happen at a much quicker pace than scientists previously suspected. Rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are making seas more acidic. That makes it harder for coral to build up their skeletons. Scientists expected that the rising tide of acidic waters would cross a tipping point and start dissolving reefs by mid-century. But some of Florida’s reefs appear to be getting a head start, according to research published in Global Biogeochemical Cycles on Monday. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/florida-reefs-begin-to-dissolve-much-sooner-than-expected/ |

Future generations are going to look back at this time and be bewildered at how selfish some were in not caring about the environment or giving two hoots about the signs all around them. We will courtesy of modern day conservatism that refuses delivery of information be known as the worst generation. |

That's cute. The left politicized this global warming thingy to no end and they are talking about conservatives playing obstructionists. Maybe you should ask why the rich elites who proclaimed to be earth conscious individuals not doing their part. |

Its sad to witness the coral reefs of the world get depleted. I wish statists would quit polluting the environment in the name of demand side economics. |

As someone with close to 10,000 dives under their belt....the most reef destruction I have seen has been by a) hurricanes and storms....by a mile b) run offs from heavy rain c) fisherman harvesting tropical fish for first world aquariums d) inexperienced divers and snorkelers trampling reefs e) inexperienced boaters and yachts anchors... |

As a slightly experienced former scuba diver, the death of coral reefs is not nearly as bad as getting cut up on coral reefs................

Averaged about 5-6 dives a day for 6 yrs til log books were destroyed in Hurricane...that was around 8000, averaged about 2 dives a day after that for about a year and a half....and now when out of the country (most of the year) average about a dive a day in streaks.... My engagement to my wife started underwater.....met lot's of celebrities and super models under water, was part of the team that married a pretty famous comedian(at the time)....underwater...(poor wife) one of the rare times we had bad conditions and low viz....heard they got divorced...good times Lot's of bubbles blown....
