A North Carolina high school will allow students to carry pepper spray, razors and other items which one board member suggested they might need to defend themselves against transgender classmates they encounter in the bathroom. The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education removed prohibitive language in its policy on defensive weapons this week but will continue to debate which items will be allowed on campus, reported the Salisbury Post. https://www.rawstory.com/2016/05/nc-school-allows-students-to-carry-pepper-spray-in-case-they-encounter-trans-classmates-in-bathroom/ |

The article made a point of stating that the reason for the pepper spray was transgenders but none of the quotes of the people pushing the rule stated that. They stated that you had no control over who could enter the restroom (referring to the badly written Charlotte ordinance) and therefor might need protection. I personally don't know if I am in love with the idea but it would be hypocritical of me to say students should not be able to carry pepper spray. I carried a knife every day of high school and that would be banned today. |

This is simply an act of hatred, that's likely very illegal at the federal level, and it won't stand long. |

My father and many other boys carried shotguns and ammo to school during hunting season in the 1920s, but it's not a good idea now. |

Arming the students is a foolish idea. This gives a wink and a nod towards using those weapons. It won't end well if the decision to arm students stands. |

Excellent. If so leftist pervert using the "trans" excuse and goes in the female bathroom, he deserves it. No sympathy from me. |

When I was in high school here in Florida many of my fellow students had gun racks in their trucks often with rifles in them. Nobody ever got shot at my school. |

There is really absolutely nothing offensive in what the guy said. This whole thing was about whether to take language out about the defensive sprays in their rules. Evidently they thought it would be ok to leave them in the car and then the person that your initial article is so fired up about said that it would be foolish to punish students if they forget to take the pepper spray out of their purse when they come into school so he was in favor of allowing them in school. He then added that if the State HB2 is revoked they might come in handy. He said that because he is aware of how badly written the Charlotte ordinance was to the point that it allowed anyone to enter any bathroom at any time for any reason. Under that Charlotte ordinance the staff at the school could not even ask a boy why he was going into the girls room without taking a chance of getting sued for discrimination. Just as somebody could abuse trans people using a particular bathroom a student could abuse this. Generally speaking, however, I feel like people should have the ability to defend themselves no matter where they are. |

If you work really hard you might be able to find a way to tie their discussion of allowing disposable razors on campus into the bathroom bill debate. I am certain that there is some way that a disposable razor can be considered anti-LGBT. You can do this. I have faith in you. |

They should allow firearms and explain to those 14-18 year olds how stand your ground works. What could go wrong? |

Yes, because pepper spray and disposable razors are absolutely on the same level as firearms. With that said, plenty of rifles were in the back of trucks when I was in High School. Nobody got shot. |

"Under that Charlotte ordinance the staff at the school could not even ask a boy why he was going into the girls room without taking a chance of getting sued for discrimination. " BS.... The Charlotte ordinance does no such thing. It, in no way, limits the authority of school staff to question any student for any reason. |

I never said it limits their authority to question them. I said that they could not ask him why he was going in there without taking a chance of getting sued. There is a difference. Prior to the ordinance the boy would never have any grounds to sue someone who questioned his entering the women's bathroom. After the ordinance the boy (when teamed with a properly slimy lawyer) would have grounds to sue, since them questioning his intent to enter that bathroom could be construed as a discriminatory attack on what sex he is self identifying as at the moment.
