'We Could Have Been There': Squadron Member Speaks Out on Stalled Benghazi Response
By Adam Housley - May 12, 2016

His squadron got the alert: a “real world mission was going down.” The team – at Aviano Air Base in northeastern Italy – raced to the field and was briefed, as planes were armed and prepared to launch. Hundreds of miles away, fellow Americans were under attack in Benghazi. "There were people everywhere. That flight line was full of people, and we were all ready to go” to Benghazi, he said.

Only they were waiting for the order. It never came.

And Ronald Reagan sold missiles to Iran and got 241 marines killed in Lebanon. Benghazi was tragic, but come on man you've got to get a life.

It makes a difference to those who are directly impacted by this. To the family and friends of those killed and to those who now and in the future serve our country overseas...it makes a difference.

It wasn't the Republicans who first made this a political issue, it was the Obama Admin and the Clinton Department of State who knowingly lied to the American public about the facts surrounding this tragedy, and they did if for political expediency...remember that.

Everything a president does is political. It's what the opposition does with the political mistake that matters most. The Repubs have made the word Benghazi a political megaphone for anti-Hillary rhetoric. What Reagan did in the Middle-east was a huge mistake and pales in comparison to what Hillary did as Sec of State. Hardly anyone knows what Reagan did because Democrats have a little more respect for themselves. The Repubs are pigs.

Yep. Even the Republicans eventually gave up on the nonsense about the mythical squadron that could have magically saved the embassy staff.

Picking a bunch of screw ups to run his foreign policy and military. Oliver North was the biggest f-up.

Probably the Marine Barracks bombing which was mismanaged by Reagan both before and after. But instead of rubbing Reagan's face in it, the Democrats held quiet, respectful hearings and came up with genuinely useful suggestions for improving security - which Reagan pretty much ignored - and we got hit again.

http://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/ronald-reagans-benghazi

But that was before the radicalization of the Republican Party. At that time, inventing conspiracy theories and parading American corpses around for electoral benefit would have been considered horrifying by either party. The Democrats lived by the dictum about politics ending at the water's edge and didn't point fingers at Reagan but at the terrorists.

Republicans have indeed acted like pigs on Benghazi. It's repulsive.

Hillary lied (lies still today) to congress about the entire matter.

In 1967 an Israeli torpedo boats and fighter aircraft attacked the unarmed United States technical research ship, the USS Liberty. These attacks took place over a period of several hours and resulted in the death of 34 crew members and the wounding of 171 others.

Where is the outrage about how the President didn't stop this attack?

I remember when nearly 3,000 Americans were killed on 9/11 and not so much as a peep from the right. Clearly the gop didn't care about those who were impacted by the attacks on that fateful morning...

From your article...

"Reagan, who was tormented by a tape of Buckley being tortured, blamed himself. Congress held no public hearings, and pointed fingers at the perpetrators, not at political rivals."

Contrast that with the lying and the cover-up of the Obama admin...that alone explains the difference in Congressional reactions. Reagan took full responsibility for what happened...even personal responsibility. Clinton and Obama knowingly lied to the American people and blamed a g*ddamned video for the tragedy.

Reagan was a real leader...Obama, Clinton...not even close.
