Donald Trump on His Tax Rate: ‘It’s None of Your Business’ http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2016/05/13/donald-trump-on-his-tax-rate-its-none-of-your-business/?_r=0 Donald J. Trump said Friday that he doesn’t believe voters have a right to see his tax returns, and insisted it’s “none of your business” when pressed on what tax rate he himself pays — a question that tripped up Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential race. Mr. Trump made the comments in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” as he continued to try to answer questions about his change in explanations over the last year about why he won’t release the taxes. |

From the article: “…Mr. Trump conceded that he released tax returns under audit over a decade ago when he was seeking a casino license, but said, “At the time it didn’t make any difference to me, now it does.” Because now voters will see that his effective tax rate is lower than the people that clean the Trump Tower bathrooms. |

Trump has already bosted about his skill in gaming the bankruptcy laws. I don't think he would ashamed, as Mitt Romney was, to reveal the various dodges and loopholes that he uses to cheat on his taxes and get away with it. Like PATruth, the Donald sees gyping the government as an act of patriotism. No, what Trump fears is his tax returns is exposure of the ridiculous lie he has been telling about his ten billion dollar fortune. He came to the figure based on his own estimate of the value of his various real estate assets. His tax filings will reveal that he is worth only a small fraction of that impressive claim. That would really hurt him with the pissedoffniks in his base. |

I'm paying at the 25 percent tax rate and this fraud probably pays in the Mitt Romney range, 14 percent. What a hypocrite and he wants to lower the tax rate for the wealthy. Yeah lets drive up the debt even more and put more burden on the middle class. What a total douchebag. |

Donnie's tax dodges are perfectly legal for the most part, he claims depreciation on income properties - which he just happens to have lots of. This is why it hasn't become a campaign issue and likely also the reason Hillary bought a 3.5 million Park Ave Condo for Chelsie recently. She was probably thinking Damn it if Donnie can do it I can do it. |

I have real sympathy for your outrage at the system. Most Americans believe our tax system should incorporate ideas like "fair share" and "all men are created equal," I know I do. But although everyone pays lip service to principles like these, everyone knows that we are not only far from our ideal government taxation, we aren't making any serious effort to get closer, and we haven't made any such effort in a generation. The obvious question is "why?". The fringe righties say it is because the government is under the control of lazy bums on welfare and illegal immigrants on federal handouts. These poor folks don't want to change the system because they are scared stiff of work and their panderers in the "Democrat" Party keep the system rigged to soak the rich who create jobs and the middle class who works so very hard for a living. Can it really be that poor people are running the government and rich people are being persecuted? |

I have never understood why college expenses cannot be “depreciated” over time like rental property investments. One invests $200k in a college education and you should be able to deduct that prorated over time like a rental property investment. |

That would be because commercial property owners have more money, and therefore more influence, than your average college graduates. |

That's exactly right. If you're wealthy enough to be able to claim depreciation on income properties on your taxes politicians will love your financial support; college students in debt, not so much. |

You know George A, I've always liked reading your posts, they are thoughtful, genuine, full of useful information and sometimes poetic. But in this case, I think you need to cut loose and call the guy what he is, a F--ing Scumbag. It's because of guys like this, we have an unjust tax system. |

This journalist has seen Trump's tax returns and says he's not as rich as he claims Back in 2005, O'Brien, a veteran business reporter, published Trump Nation: The Art of Being the Donald, a biography of Trump. The book contains a section about O'Brien's efforts to ascertain Trump's net worth: So I asked around for guidance. Three people with direct knowledge of Donald's finances, people who had worked closely with him for years, told me that they thought his net worth was somewhere between $150 million and $250 million. By anyone's standards this still qualified Donald as comfortably wealthy, but none of these people thought he was remotely close to being a billionaire. http://www.vox.com/2016/5/14/11671650/how-rich-is-trump |
