Republicans controlling the House are proposing $23 billion worth of food stamp cuts over the coming decade. They are part of a $170 billion spending cut package aimed at getting tea party lawmakers to vote for a broader 10-year budget plan.

The food stamp cuts would be to benefits for able-bodied recipients without children and those who receive a greater benefit because they also qualify for home-heating subsidies. They are a small part of the 10-year, approximately $720 billion budget for the program

SNAP spending increased 100% under Obama. $2.3 billion a year is miniscule in the larger scheme of things and given that you think the economy is a roaring success, much less people will need to be on food stamps. Cut it in half!

One has to at least give Congressman Ryan points for coupling this food stamp reduction with a reduction in military pensions. He seems to be willing to get flack from both sides.

Does this budget do anything to remove the tax loopholes for the wealthy so they are paying the same rate as middle class citizens?

No. Because Democratic voters decided to sit out the 2010 and 2014 elections and so both the House and the Senate are controlled by Republicans.

So I guess the Pres isn't going to sign on to this budget then?

It is unlikely that President Obama will be in office when this budget is ready for signature, if that point ever comes.

There is a agreed upon “spending plan” (made in 2014) that limits what this budget (actually spending) can accomplish. More than likely, the Republicans will not be able to agree on a new budget, so there will be a continuing resolution on September 30th to continue with the formerly agreed upon spending plan.
