Thousands of United States service members who lost their military careers after reporting a sexual assault live with stigmatizing discharge papers that prevent them from getting jobs and benefits, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. The report is the result of a 28-month investigation by Human Rights Watch, with the support of Protect Our Defenders, a human rights organization that supports and advocates for survivors of military sexual assault. Under pressure from the public and Congress, the US military has in recent years implemented some protection for service members who report sexual assault, but nothing has been done to redress the wrongs done to those who were unfairly discharged. The 124-page report, “Booted: Lack of Recourse for Wrongfully Discharged US Military Rape Survivors,” found that many rape victims suffering from trauma were unfairly discharged for a “personality disorder” or other mental health condition that makes them ineligible for benefits. Others were given “Other Than Honorable” discharges for misconduct related to the assault that shut them out of the Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare system and a broad range of educational and financial assistance. The consequences of having “bad paper” – any discharge other than “honorable” – or being labeled as having a “personality disorder” are far-reaching for veterans and their families, impacting employment, child custody, health care, disability payments, burial rights – virtually all aspects of life. https://www.hrw.org/news/2016/05/19/us-raped-military-then-punished Edited by Siberian, May 19 2016, 11:09 AM.

Rape is a crime of violence. The military is, ultimately, about violence. Most men join the military at an age when testosterone is at its highest lifetime level. Military order controls and focuses violence on the enemy, usually with success. Integrating women into the military heightens the risk of violence getting out of control and taking a sexual direction. How high the risk depends on the social attitude of young men toward young women. In some societies, male-female attitudes are such that integrated armed forces are successful with little of the internal destructive forces that show up in rape. America likes to think that it is such a society but the data show clearly that this is not the case. Data about rape in prison further strengthens the conclusion that American society falls far short of our self-congratulatory ideals. |

Lol, Stef, when will you finally realize that my message is not that Russia is excellent, but it's that your countries are as much police states, but people which live there are much more zombied because they don't even realize to what extent they are just speechless bugs whith no importance. and mostly with no brains to comprehend it. And what is your message? By the way, please don't repeat a propagandist stuff that elimination of an islamist terrorist organization in Crimea is somehow a crackdown on dissent Edited by Siberian, May 19 2016, 12:45 PM.

Omg, no, it's me who is doing it and what he repeats is nothing but what exactly matters. By the way, I see no harm or fault in spreading agit-prop, you are always welcome, just do it in a clever way to be interesting, unfortunately Stef is not instrumental. |

Surely you can figure it out all by yourself. After all, you keep telling us how much smarter you are than the rest of us, so who are we "speechless bugs with no importance" to not believe that you're right? There again, once in a while I like to have some fun with you. You are so transparent that you make me smile. Stef |

Stef, I am to kind and polite not to give people a chance to demonstrate they are better than impression that I formed on them Regardless to however clever I am I cannot exclude possibility I am wrong Besides, there are no "the rest of yours", you are quite different, there are people like Drudge etc whose Russophobia is a sympthom that their brain cannot contain more than just one thought, and this is it, the only one. There are people who bear a healthy doze of self-criticism and irony, I cannot deny the West has plenty of them, but you are a man who combine a spoon of good manners (contrarilly to Drudge and co) with a barrel of the same bias and intellectual retardness and clumsiness.I'll finish my though tomorrow, it's 1.00 late night. |
