Sessions, Cassidy to introduce 'The World's Greatest Health Care Bill. Ever

House Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions, R-Texas, and Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., plan to introduce what they are terming an “alternative” health care bill Thursday which will not repeal ObamaCare, but work alongside the existing Affordable Care Act and modify various parts of the system.
The legislation is technically called the HELP Act, short for “Health Empowerment Liberty Plan.” Sessions however prefers a less clinical moniker with a title infused with a dose of Donald Trump-esque hubris. Instead, the Texas Republican calls the legislation “The World’s Greatest Health Care Bill. Ever.”
Sessions notes that the legislation allows people to keep ObamaCare if they so desire, noting that his measure does not entail a full repeal of ObamaCare

The Sessions plan does nothing to control costs or reduce the chaos of too many plans, it merely gives a tax break to people who set aside money to pay those outrageous costs. For the millions who cannot afford medical costs now and who have no money to put into that "medical savings account" the plan is a cruel joke. What else would you expect from a guy like Jeff Sessions?

On the bright side, this plan marks a watershed change. Trump and the Republicans are now switching from trying to kill Obamacare to fighting desperately to patch it up and keep it on the books. Why? Because they have figured out that ACA is a market-based, Republican health plan which, when it fails, will be followed by Medicare for All.

It will be a good laugh to watch our righties doing an about-face on this one.

"At a minimum, Sessions says that people must at least carry a health plan which has a high deductible...."

So, not only are they not repealing Obamacare, they are re-enforcing the requirement that all people have to buy health insurance.

:rotflmao:

Wasn't this conservatives main objection to Obamacare?

I guess those that oppose the mandatory purchase of some type of coverage would rather just pay for those people that use the "free" ER unit for their medical needs.

The reality in 2008 was that the existing health insurance system was collapsing. ACA was a sloppy compromise. For Republicans, it was the only way to stop Medicare for All. For Democrats, it was the nose of the camel under the tent, the recognition of universal healthcare as an entitlement which, once in place, would never be repealed. The GOP bellowing about "repeal Obamacare" was nothing but a shuck tossed to the right wing.

Sessions is offering the next rear guard action. The GOP has given up the idea of repeal of ACA and is now committed to a strategy of tinkering and patches in hopes of holding off Medicare for All for a long as possible. How many thousands of lives this stall will cost is nothing; what counts is the billions in profits to be made while the making is good.

Nothing much different in this world's greatest healthcare bill ever, other than a new name, "Trumpcare", which previously was called Romneycare or Obamacare..........
