Whistleblower Chelsea Manning is appealing her conviction under the Espionage Act for releasing more than 700,000 cables to Wikileaks in 2010, which earned her a 35 year sentence in a military prison. Papers were filed on Wednesday with the Army Court of Criminal Appeals in Fort Belvoir, but they must be reviewed for classified information before they are released to the public. Manning was sentenced to 35 years in 2013 after being found guilty of 20 charges by court martial, including six under the Espionage Act of 1917, for whistleblowing on war crimes committed by the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan. https://www.rt.com/usa/343660-chelsea-manning-appeals-conviction/ |

Whistleblowers who do so within the system can be protected. Spies who commit espionage by releasing classified data to a foreign power or news organization do not receive protection. Somehow I feel that Vlad would have personally been involved in the severe punishment of any Russian who did something like what Manning did. Beyond being sent to some gulag any Russian version of manning would probably be tortured and killed. Edited by Demagogue, May 20 2016, 10:50 AM.

These are the same leftists who screamed for bloody confrontation when ranchers protested peacefully against illegal federal land-grabs. |
