"Socially necessary" labor refers to the quantity required to produce a commodity "in a given state of society, under certain social average conditions or production, with a given social average intensity, and average skill of the labor employed."[43] That is, the value of a product is determined more by societal standards than by individual conditions. This explains why technological breakthroughs lower the price of commodities and put less advanced producers out of business. Finally, it is not labor per se, which creates value, but labor power sold by free wage workers to capitalists. Another distinction to be made is that between productive and unproductive labor. Only wage workers of productive sectors of the economy produce value.[note 3] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_theory_of_value |

Do you agree that the statement in the OP is not a Marxist ideal? Where it is wage earners that make productivity possible, not investors and entrepreneurs? |

That is absolutely not true. Now back to the question - do you think the statement in the OP is not a Marxist ideal? This is an interesting discussion because I think many folks in western nations, including Hillary as well as folks on this board - promote Marxist ideals but then get incredibly defensive when called out on it. You realize the level of Marxism that is implanted into the young brain in our educational system is significant, right? Here are some bullet points - now compare them to threads, posts made on here - as well as the media, web and otherwise. - Globalisation and Inequality - The Scourge of Unemployment - A Crisis of Overproduction - Alienation - The Class Struggle - Idealism or Materialism? - Hunter-gatherer society/Primitive Communism Edited by estonianman, May 26 2016, 12:13 PM.
