Pilots, oil workers strike as France seeks way out of crisis
Quote:

Air France pilots voted on Monday to go on strike and oil storage workers extended a job walkout, compounding the French government's woes as it scrambled to calm rolling protests against labor reforms ahead of the Euro soccer tournament.

After more than three months of tense talks, often violent street protests, and waves of strikes in the transport and energy industries, the Socialist government is under pressure to find a solution before the Euro 2016 kick-off on June 10.

France labour dispute: Hollande digs in as rail strike looms
Quote:

President Francois Hollande of France has insisted that a controversial labour reform will not be withdrawn as strike action looms on the railways.

"The text assures the best performance for businesses and offers new rights to employees," he told a newspaper.

Protesters clashed with police last week during marches against the bill, which makes hiring and firing easier.

France industrial unrest: Open-ended strike brings rail misery
Quote:

An open-ended rail strike is under way in France just nine days before the country hosts the Euro 2016 football tournament.

Only 60% of high-speed trains and between a third and a half of other services are expected to run, according to the state rail company (the SNCF).

Trade unions are protesting against work time changes but the strike comes amid general labour unrest.

The wider protests are over a bill to shake up the labour market.

The bill comes before the Senate this month, having passed through the lower house without a vote.
