Congress has been spleeping for 16 years now.

Here is why:

Authorities are fighting a scourge of phone crime enabled by cheap technology that blasts out nefarious calls and hides wrongdoers’ whereabouts. The scammers are heavily targeting the elderly, sparking a push in Congress to fight back.

Robo calls, scam callers, criminal activity has been going on for well over 16 years.

Congress has been either fast asleep or simply does not care.

Tactics used to hook the elderly include:

1. Fraudsters sometimes pose as tech support for software companies

2. pose as cash-strapped grandchildren

3. pose as tax collectors

4. pose as Bank personnel

5. pose as federal officials.

6. Pose as Title company agents.
