By now, most of us are aware that there are forces that are working diligently to turn the United States into a bunch of candy rear-ends The movement is systematic and far reaching and even pushes for the formative years feminization of American boys Today we will create a list of things that are normal and healthy that USED to be common activities for American children, but that are not allowed in our schools anymore Let's begin! 1. Play DODGEBALL! Remember dodgeball? The best game ever? A whole generation is missing out on this fantastic game because it is "too violent" ![]() 2. Play tetherball! Remember tetherball? See above 3. Pick out who you want to send a Valentine to. Today? It is either NO Valentines or send one for everybody, how in the hell are the people you don't like supposed to get snubbed? 4. Sit INDIAN style. Not "criss cross applesauce". It's INDIAN style for God's sake. 5. Play cowboys and indians on the playground. Or WAR. Or cops and robbers. Just flat out pretending to shoot the bad guys with your finger even - ALL against the rules and frowned upon anymore ![]() 6. Bring a Swiss army knife to school, or any pocket knife. Remember being prepared? Not anymore... 7. Clapping erasers and writing lines on the chalkboard. "I will not lift Susie's dress in class. I will not lift Susie's dress in class..." 500 times, THEN, go clap the chalk out of the erasors. Today's kid's get NO DICIPLINE. Don't even get me started on spankings when a belligerent kid NEEDS one... 8. Making mom an ashtray in art class for a Christmas present. Yeah, winter holiday used to be called Christmas break by everybody, I know it is hard to believe... 9. Gender specific activities and classes. Let's be real people. Some things are meant for JUST BOYS (like Shop) and some things are meant for JUST GIRLS (like Home Economics). It's the natural order of things. 10. Bringing cupcakes and other sweets to school for Halloween and birthday parties, Now everything has to be "healthy" and "gluten free". It's a damned shame that today's kid's are missing out; and treats for good behavior are a thing of the past... So yes, this is a short and incomplete list. Please feel free to chime in and ADD traditions and activities that used to be a part of every child's daily life that is no longer allowed! Edited by dcbl, May 27 2016, 11:49 PM.

I did all those things as a child. But I discovered that none of them had anything to do with being a man. |

Speaking of "wussification" I hear Mr. Trump backed out of the debate he asked for with one of his typical lame excuse. Kind of defines the word. |

Is this a joke? or do you actually believe this? It looks like some stupid meme that would go around on social media. |

I was a boy and I despised both shop and home economics. My only good moment in home economics came when we made pizza and I managed to vomit directly on the teacher. At the time, I was quite embarrassed but in retrospect, that was actually really awesome. Edited by Two a.m., May 27 2016, 08:38 PM.

lol, awesome. I was just wondering because a week ago one of my facebook friends had something with kind of the same tone - kids don't say the pledge of allegiance, blah blah - but they sure do in our schools. Christmas vacation still is called Christmas. There are two Christmas trees right there in the public school. Cupcakes at school functions, dodge-ball in gym. I don't remember tetherball ever in school, but we played at camp, and there's one right down the street in the public park that kids use. so those are still happening. Knives were against the rules even back in the early 70s, though x cough x I understand some people may have had them anyway. Seems like a sensible rule. We also didn't use seat-belts or helmets. My cousin died from a fall on her bike, so I'm thinking some of the new safety stuff is a pretty good idea. I remember riding sitting on the tailgate of the station wagon. What could go wrong? Shop just for boys?? My engineer daughter says "suck it". Personally I think everyone, regardless of gender, needs some basic life skills, like how to check your own oil and tires, how to cook simple foods, how to use common tools, how to balance a checkbook, count change, and tie something to a car roof so it doesn't blow off. IMO all those would be more useful than a lot of what's covered, and every day I see people who can't do them. I don't think there's any rule against pretending to shoot the bad guys with your finger, but it's all light sabers these days. Whiteboards killed the "clap the erasers" drill, but writing essays is still a thing. I never heard of indian or criss-cross applesauce, might be regional? Spanking in school hasn't been allowed in many northern states for many years (or in most of Europe) but is still permitted in much of the south. |

well, I did see an article that was similar a few days ago, so I had some inspiration but that was original writing... and an attempt at humor I have often been accused of "parroting right wing talking points" on here and elsewhere I am one of those folks that can actually write the talking points... anywho - here is my obligatory meme for this thread:

sitting indian style:![]() today, my kids call it sitting criss cross applesauce, cuz "indian style" is insensitive knives at school? yes - no problems with pocket knives when I was a kid hell, I remember smoking cigarettes in GROCERY STORES and on airplanes spanking in school was "at the parents discretion" when I was a kid - not allowed now the ONLY part of my little rant that was made up for humor was Susie's dress (Heather's boob just sounded too crass) |

lol "Heather's Boob" would be a good band name. I think a lot of things come down to common sense, which sadly too many lack, hence the need for rules. Also our society is now so litigious that schools and businesses feel like they have to cover their butts because people will sue for damn near anything. |

We sat "Indian-style" in kindergarten. Now, as I understand, the term is indeed "criss-cross applesauce". I think the nation got through the transition okay. |

Fortunately, I believe "grabbing Heather's boob" is still called that. |

I stopped at dodge ball. My memories of dodge ball are about being hit in the face or other parts of the body as hard as the biggest, most athletic kids on the other side could possibly accomplish. It was, quite honestly, kind of sadistic in that it basically gave the more athletic boys the opportunity to be as brutal as they could to the less athletic boys, with no consequences. Yeah, I'll pass on "good ole' dodge ball". |
