The de facto leadership of South Ossetia issued a statement saying that the referendum on joining Russia would be conducted in 2017, instead of, as previously planned, in August this year at latest.

‘Taking into account the long-term interest of the South Ossetian people and trying to ensure stability of the socio-political situation in the Republic of South Ossetia, we jointly declare our support for the decision of the Political Council under the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on 26 May 2016 on the feasibility of holding a referendum on joining the Russian Federation by the Republic of South Ossetia in 2017, after the presidential election in the Republic of South Ossetia’, the statement issued by the president of South Ossetia, Leonid Tybylty (better known by the Russian version of his last name Tibilov), and the speaker of parliament, Anatoliy Bibylty (Bibilov) reads.

Not many here belive it, but Putin is a true American puppet.
If Putin doesn't opose it, the USSR could be quite quickly restored by will of people wanting to join Russia :)
Not all of them, but definitely half if not most of Ukraine could have been part of Russia just by will of people, already, by now, actually common people all over former USSR long for it. And in a decade or two, after the EU collapses - you will see all these little republics begging Russia to let them join us. Remember my words. These bastards always want free food etc and after their dreams about EU food and money rains turn faulse - they will start looking at Moscow again, as in was centuries ago. :) They need a master to take care of them, this is the reason they elect US citizens their presidents like in Baltic "states" or appoint them to ministerial posts.
After the wind changes the direction - they will search for a new master.

The previous time Ukraine asked to join Russia (in 1654) it led to invasion of Poland to Russia which ended with Russian victory.
History repeats, just now our President Putin is an American puppet with no balls. Hopefully he will not last long.

What a load of crap. In 1989, there was 100,000 people in S. Ossetia, now there are 30,000 - the vast majority killed by vigilantes and pushed out in the quest for ethnic cleansing.

How many countries not named Russia recognize S. Ossetia, Ivan? It is Georgian territory illegally invaded and occupied by Russia.

The place is now a virtual Russian Army base(4500 Russian troops, FSB troops manning the borders and new military hardware everywhere) and they seem to move the border fence nightly. It's run by a KGB agent... maybe Putin's getting tired of the bad publicity or decided he has better things to spend his money on.

And inquiring minds wonder if this unconstitutional maneuver will lead the North Ossetians to ask for a referendum on their independence?

I tend to the same conclusion. I am reminded of Sam Adams' response to the impassioned cry that "man's first want is his freedom!" Man's first want, Adams replied, "is his dinner; his second is his girl." Impassioned rhetoric about liberty is a luxury available when life has stabilized above subsistence level. The poor devils of Central Europe have been marched over and fooked over without interruption for over a century. They have no culture tradition of widespread philosophical speculation about universal, inalienable rights. It's no fun trying to raise a family on the median divider.

I think you probably need to provide some facts that contradict the 'biased' article, friend. Small wonder that you didn't even try to do that.
When does Northern Ossetia get a referendum on independence? And how many countries recognized S. Ossetia's 'independence'? These really aren't tough questions.

Lol, Jake, if you insist on making you look ridiculous with your "facts" - OK. :)

number of residents and ethnic cleansings -
I quote from Wiki
1991–1992 South Ossetia War Edit
Main article: 1991–1992 South Ossetia War
Amidst rising ethnic tensions, war broke out when Georgian forces entered the capital of South Ossetia, Tskhinvali.[8] More than 2,000 people are believed to have been killed in the war.[9] The separatists were helped by former Soviet military units, who by now had come under Russian command.[10] Approximately 100,000 Ossetians fled Georgia proper and South Ossetia, while 23,000 Georgians left South Ossetia.[11] A ceasefire agreement (the Sochi Agreement) was reached on 24 June 1992. While it ended the war, it did not deal with the status of South Ossetia.

I liked your article... Georgian troops invaded Georgia(South Ossetia was a part of Georgia before the Russians invaded), really penetrating analysis there.

Is there a chance that you'll be doing something other than pretending you have a clue at some point. You're not fooling anyone and it's very tedious wading thru 'I'm typing in a traffic jam' prose.

Jake, applying your logic Georgia is a part of Russia and we cannot really invade our territory .
If Georgians have the right for independent state, why South Ossetians have not? :)
Besides, there is very important thing. Great states, or any multiethnic states are built on either forced assimilation or ethnic cleansing or suppression - in a European or American way, or via pleasing minorities in all possible ways - as Russia did and does.
South Ossetians had autonomy in USSR, immediately after Georgia got independence - Georgians eliminated it and it led to desintegration of Georgia.
Ukrainian neonazis, after they got to power in a US-EU sponsored armed coup - in their first act cancelled regional status of Russian language (which 1/2 of Ukraine speaks as mother language) - which led to civil war and desintegration of Ukraine.
EU member Croatia cleanced Serbs out, Baltic states deprived all ethnic Russians any rights including citizenship, and they constitute 1/3-1/2 of local population there.
So, there is the reason Russia is still and will be a great power and Georgia is a failed state, which being one of most prosperous republics in USSR, lost up to 1/2 of its population after collapse of USSR due to constant migration of Georgians to Russia (just imagine! :) ) .
As for recognition of South Ossetian independence - well Russia did this, it's enough for the state to exist :)

Here read this...

The Soviet Union was dissolved on December 26, 1991 as a result of the declaration no. 142-Н of the Soviet of the Republics of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union.[1] The declaration acknowledged the independence of the former Soviet republics and created the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), although five of the signatories ratified it much later or not at all. On the previous day, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, the eighth and last leader of the Soviet Union, resigned, declared his office extinct, and handed over its powers – including control of the Soviet nuclear missile launching codes – to Russian President Boris Yeltsin. That evening at 7:32 p.m., the Soviet flag was lowered from the Kremlin for the last time and replaced with the pre-revolutionary Russian flag.[2]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissolution_of_the_Soviet_Union

See, that was when Georgia stopped being part of the USSR... so no, Georgia is Georgia, not Russia, and was invaded by Russia in 2008. South Ossetia has never been independent and according to Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt...

"South Ossetian independence is a joke. We are talking about a smugglers' paradise of 60,000 people financed by the Russian security services. No one can seriously consider that as an independent state."

So, when does Northern Ossetia get to vote on independence? How about Ingushetia? Dagestan? Or do you just randomly pick a region OUTSIDE Russia to receive 'independence'?

And of course, you continue to refuse to answer how many nations have recognized the independence of S. Ossetia. Is it because you don't know?

Russian puppet claims the world is rosy because Putin claims it is and he knows better than to buck Putin.

I hear the food lines are getting crazy at the company store once again, maybe the word of Putin is good enough to eat but an empty stomach going to bed isn't going to make the world a great place to live in the immediate sphere of influence.

Drill baby drill.

Jake, again, do you really think you can do anything but look rediculous and ignorant talking on USSR-related topics?
There was a referendum in USSR prior to its collapse and over 70% of voters preferred to keep USSR united, so legally all those deputees and presidenrs who in a couple of months violated the will of people must be jailed for unconstitutional coups and obviously all desisions on elimination of USSR are invalid, because according to the consitution of USSR referendum is the top expression of the will of people and a top power to make a decision.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union_referendum,_1991

We can restore the USSR in any minute because it is the will of its people and it is the only legal will of people.
It's a pity the will of people and referendums are ignored in the West if they are against your interests, but who cares.
Georgia and any other republic are still parts of USSR if you really want to turn to legal way of discussion.

Drudge, most Russians will celebrate when Chechnya finally breaks away, and celebrate twice - when it does and when swarms of hungry Chechen refugees reach the West as illegal immigrants.
It will really be a great fun
Chechen gangs are violent and many, they cobtrol human smuggling as well as narcotraffic and most dangerous and destructive crimes, I am sure they will succeed in flooding the West with islamists :)
Be careful with what you wishes, it may come true :)

Given the chance, most Russians will abandon motherland in a heartbeat and move to America.
