Who wants 37 types of deodorant? In magical Bernie land you only get a choice of white and red bottles.

I don't know Freaks. I am guessing its bleach and "tropical punch" - the necessities.

The revisionism among privileged western Marxists is incredible.

When Chavez won - they said "revolutionary wins against corrupt capitalists, prosperity is now on the horizon!"

Now that another society is flushed down the toilet due to socialism ...

"Venezuela was taken advantage by corporate oil price fixing, the people didn't vote for this dictator, this isn't socialism"

You know perfectly well that Senator Sanders does not want to nationalize Whole Foods (or any other American business).

If Carlos Perez had focused on giving Venezuelan workers a decent minimum wage, unemployment insurance and expanded healthcare instead of diverting government funds to his business cronies (and his own bank account) then there would not have been a Chavez or Maduro.

I am pretty sure the Venezuelan government never nationalized retail. They did however play around with price fixing, thereby making it unprofitable to provide many goods.

Has Senator Sanders proposed that food stores in America be nationalized or that there should be price controls on American food products?

The only person I recall instituting price controls in America was the Republican Richard Nixon.

Yeah - goes to show you even the most 'conservative' presidents are to left of even Obama.

My mistake - I was going by this Reuters article

That said in the 1970's Sanders helped found the Liberty Union Party, which called for the nationalization of all US banks and the public takeover of all private utility companies.

The Liberty Union Party is still alive in Vermont. However, unlike the Socialists-USA Party, they do not call for the nationalization of banks or utilities. They believe in the nationalization of banks and utilities, but do not have the courage to actually come out and say it.

Last year the Liberty Union Party passed a resolution that declared Senator Sanders (and the rest of the Vermont Congressional delegation) a war criminal for his vote to send military aid to Israel.

While Senator Sanders certainly does believe in the government redistribution of wealth, he does not see the nationalization of private business as a means to that end. He is quite happy to let capitalism generate taxes.

Still - what is the logic behind nationalizing banks and public utilities?

Whatever it is - the same can certainly be applied for food and water. That's exactly how it went down in Venezuela. As nationalization was implemented people became poorer and good became more scarce, this further justified the government takeover of additional industries.

Well, we “semi” nationalized the US Banks in 2008/9 with the Troubled Asset Relief Program. As long as banks are run by the greed of short term investors, the government either has to nationalize or stringently regulate banks to insure depositors.

Many countries (even western countries) have nationalized their banks in periods of crisis. In the US many troubled individual banks have been seized by the federal government to have its assets sold and its operations closed. During the 1990’s savings and loan crisis, this happened to hundreds of US banks.

Governmental incompetency is nothing compared to the track record of US bank manger's incompetency.

The government created this problem by insuring deposits.
