What we need is a good system of accreditation, that will allow students to get legitimate degrees on-line, and a system of low cost, on-line universities.

Maybe some day, the cost of higher education will be less than it was 50 years ago.

We spend something like $600 billion a year on "Defense" spending, much of which is spent on providing military defense for Europe and Asia, but we don't have the money to spend on giving our own population a college education.

I suppose I'm the only one who sees a problem with this...
Well to be fair - if the US didn't spend that on defense, much of the socialist countries would have to step up - and they are already broke.

In terms of faculty and support, it is actually more expensive to teach a course online than face-to-face.

Do you have any numbers to back this up?

If you are going to dissolve part of the military budget - that money should be given back to everyone as a tax break.

Spending it on kidults so that they can get their gender studies or african studies degrees is unproductive and stupid.

Nothing except my personal experience teaching both online and face-to-face.

Excluding the support staff associated with the bricks and mortar of a campus community, online instructors need extensive technical support staff not only to provide and maintain the online vehicle but also in the design and preparation of the online materials. It is considerably harder to teach online than face-to-face. Most instructors achieve a mastery in their chosen field of study, not in the technical and pedagogical aspects of delivering a course online.

A federal program to give free college educations are unnecessary...We can draft all the college students into the military, not pay them anything, and they can learn, without any tuition, to operate machine guns and artillery...Skills they can apply to civilian life if they live in a rough neighborhood.........
