Tomorrow the Swiss vote on a referendum to grant every adult citizen a "basic income", whether they work or not...It is set at $2,554 a month...Can an American live on that ???...Switzerland per capita income is higher than the US...This should make us realize Americans are relatively poor and feel we are not the greatest country in the world...By the way, Switzerland has always driven illegal aliens out of their country and only accepts wealthy immigrants...........

I used to visit Gryon as my get away, seriously the place was eye crack. I would live at an aussie hostel up there for months, working a bar in the small town that was on the side of a mountain. ![]() You would see americans coming in doing the same, working construction on a the chalets that dotted the mountain side. Starting pay for the american illegals was about 25 CHF an hour, which in those days was about 20 USD. If they were Swiss the pay was pretty much double and their managers were easily making 100 CHF an hour. |

Looks like the Swiss not only maintain their wealth, but their intelligence. Edited by estonianman, Jun 5 2016, 09:40 AM.

Those who are able qua age, body & mind, should work to do something useful. Many people prolly do no realize that Helvetia, too, got numbers of folks not able to work (anymore). For this category, I would advocate the basic-income policy. |

How do you prevent people from modifying their behavior to qualify for these free handouts? |
