PARIS (AP) -- About a quarter of Air France pilots are striking to demand better working conditions - the latest challenge to travelers and France's image as it hosts Europe's biggest sporting event.

Weeks of strikes and demonstrations over the country's labor reforms and other industrial disputes have led to panic at the pumps, violent protests in the streets and, most recently, garbage rotting in the gutters. It's a litany of headaches which some Parisians fear will scare away visitors.

"I'm telling you, France has become a very ugly country," Francoise Cuip, 60, told a reporter in Paris' well-heeled 16th district. "It's my country, but that's the way it is."

Nobody cares anymore...

Being French, or a part of France, is meaningless. There is no France, there are no borders. Everyone living in what was known as France is now out for his/her self interest. The BIG socialist governments of France have destroyed it, ...utterly. For decades the French socialists have promised everything to everyone, and now they are left with nothing. Big government. Massive and uncontrollable. Impersonal. Indifferent. For anyone/everyone who is employed with Air France, or the French railways, or by the government wage demands are personal, not for the general welfare of their fellow citizens. "I get what's rightfully mine." You are looking at the future of Europe, ugly and dysfunctional. No one cares. Depressing.
