In short: the report recommends firm State action. But that is not going to happen in Argentina under Macri, in Brazil under Temer (if Dilma doesn't return) and in Venezuela under any US puppet if the American Empire dethrones Maduro. So, the thread headline should be more like: "UN: 25 millions in LatAm will return to poverty". |

Macri, Temer, Capriles, López, etc. are Neoliberals. "Socialism"(*) did OK. See the graphs, again. (*) Capitalism with a moderate welfare state, actually. |

No, in Venezuela, where everyone is sliding towards poverty, the govt has appropriated much of the profitable industry, making a pig's breakfast of the entire thing. That anyone would try to sell Venezuela's economic 'success' to the rest of the world just points to someone with a few screws loose. The mantra is 'misery for everyone' except those in the top level of govt. Maduro's head is going to make a nice resting spot for a .22 slug at some point. |

Yeah... sure has... the list is never ending... I will give Macri and the Govt. of Argentina credit... they did manage to restructure and pay off their bond debt and now have regained access to credit on the world market and the funny thing... as Macri cleans up all the years of Kirchner corruption, he has slowed the contraction of the economy and by 2017 the economy is estimated to GROW for the first time in years by up to 3%-4%. yet the supporter of Kirchner and the Liberals cry because in order to do so they have to give up some of their social programs... Sorry Che... you're wrong... Macri has slowed down the slide and the start of recovery is in site... http://www.focus-economics.com/countries/argentina Argentina officially exited default in late April following the payment of USD 9.3 billion to holdout bondholders. The payment was carried out after the government managed to successfully finalize the sale of USD 16.5 billion in bonds. The settlement with the holdouts also paved the way for the government to pay the holders of restructured bonds. Following the end of the holdout saga, the country’s debt rating was upgraded by the three important rating agencies. While the return to credit markets marks a milestone for Argentina, Mauricio Macri’s aggressive reform drive is triggering massive discontent at home. In recent weeks, thousands of people have taken to the streets to protest against layoffs and austerity cuts. Against this backdrop, earlier this month, Macri struck a deal with local businessmen to suspend layoffs for 90 days. High inflation and massive job cuts are a main cause of concern for Argentinians. In April, consumer confidence deteriorated to the lowest level in nearly two years. Edited by voted4reagan, Jun 15 2016, 07:31 AM.

Trump needs to focus more so on the male vote. He should have nationalized the Boy Scouts when they decided to admit girls. Harambe4Trump AKA "FASHY" | |

Venezuela is just a single country of South America. If Maduro falls, he will be replaced by a worse regime. Just like in any country where the American Empire put its claws.

It's not 'if' Maduro falls, it's when... and he could hardly be replaced by anyone 'worse' than a bus driver with an embarrassing grasp on economic principles. The damage has been so extensive in Venezuela that it will take years if not decades to turn things around but you'll be here screaming inside a week about capitalist vultures or some other form of claptrap. I like that you're here(regularly bleating on about American imperialism ad nauseum)... to keep discrediting the socialist meme. |
