Scientists have predicted that unless radical improvements are made in the way we design computers, by 2040, computer chips will need more electricity than what our global energy production can deliver. The projection could mean that our ability to keep pace with Moore's Law – the idea that the number of transistors in an integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years – is about to slide out of our grasp. http://www.sciencealert.com/computers-will-require-more-energy-than-the-world-generates-by-2040 |

Desktop, laptop, phone, and tablet would be obsolete by then. One device, size of a credit card will provide enough computing power to run all four devices by projecting a holographic image. |

The phrase "unless radical improvements are made in the way we design computers" says a lot. I expect hundreds of radical improvements in the way we design computers myself, in the next 24 years, and lower power operation will become an increasingly desirable feature during that time, and will receive a lot of engineering man-hours. |

So will some form of solar/light energy, built in, to reduce demands on batteries/the grid. |

Perpetual energy producing device is always fascinating. Perhaps in several decades, scientists can make one that can be applied to everyday usage. I'd love to see a refrigerator that can run itself by capturing the heat from the motor and convert back into energy. |

Moore's Law states that computing will double in speed every 18 months. But..... the power required half's every 18 months or so. Soooooooo. The OP is wrong. |
