The junta that tried to seize power in the Soviet Union on August 18-21, 1991, is one of the most inept in the history of palace coups. Not only did it fail to take power, but it also brought about the opposite of its aims – the collapse of the USSR.

A great day in History and in my life. Really a milestone, and a great personal event regardless how positive or negative it was. Such things make life intense and significant. Tough, I was not on the barricades in the most decisive night, but still I have a photo somewhere standing near T-72 tank which was blocking a highway not far from my house.

The world owes a debt of gratitude to one Boris Yeltsin. He might have been a drunk, as well as an incompetent when it came to economic matters, but he was brave and honorable when his time in history came.

It was indeed an important moment in world history.
